“Lovely, friendly hotel”
Well presented, good facilities, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good food
“Mauritian Intercontinental”
Wonderful hotel, with excellent rooms, all high-end, and great food. The beach however is a slight let down, given the amazing beaches that Mauritius has. Worth staying at, but certainly some trips to other beaches will have to be had.
“Excellent Hotel”
The hotel is wonderful and the staff go out of their way to help. Guest relations manager Mr. Aldo was especially very helpful. There was a great breakfast spread with something for everyone. The family room has one master bedroom (with sitting area) plus one children's room (with twin beds), a huge bathroom and a balcony. The room size is very good and perfectly comfortable for four adults also. Our room was on the ground level and the beach was just a few steps away. We will definitely be back.
“The hotel was very nice”
Our holiday at Interciontinental hotel at Balaclava Fort in Mauritius was very nice experience and have thoroughly enjoyed. I will recommending anyone to visit Mauritius for relaxation and tropical experience.
“We will most certainly stay at the Intercontinental whenever we do that return trip to Mauritius”
A brand new hotel and so perhaps the staff were going out of their way to make our stay memorable. The plus points are the artificial lagoon and the heated pool (a smaller pool on the far side of the hotel). Unfortunately we ran into exceptionally cold weather during the week so couldn't make use of the lagoon or the main pool. But the heated pool was great. For meals, apart from the main dining area there is an Indian and a Chinese speciality restaurant which were both very good though expensive. Both the restaurants have a smart casual dress code (no shorts or sandals) which I found strange for a holiday resort. But I understand that most restaurants in Mauritius have this code so pack a trouser and shoes if you plan to dine out. On "things that could be better" the tubs in the bathrooms need to be replaced with more practical ones. Also, the staff at the marine club, attached to the hotel, were not very helpful. We asked for a glass bottom boat ride but were told that it required a 24 hr advance booking although the boat was floating idle. Apart from the hotel, a must do unique experience in Mauritius is the submarine ride (for which you need to book separately). I was surprised to find that bookings for some of the sightseeing trips (including the submarine) from the hotel were cheaper than travel shops outside. Lastly, most of the beaches in Mauritius are riddled with sharp edged corals so if you plan on long beach walks carry a pair of Crocs or rubber sandals.
“Good hotel, but not a 5 star”
Good hotel, but significantly worse than other Intercontinental hotels, definitely not a 5 star. Beautiful design, nice room, great bathroom, a bed wasn't very comfortable though. Beach looks good, but the sand is too coarse, you can't really walk without shoes. Food was really bad, including breakfast buffets and all the restaurants. Staff is quite alright, concierge was very helpful. Location is not great, isolated from everything. No restaurants, supermarkets, shops within walking distance( 20 min taxi drive).
“Good resort with few negatives”
Everything is great at this resort expect few cons as below: Sand not fine at beach. Lot of small rocks. Food is very expensive and quality not 5 star Not recommended if you are single and in Mauritius to Party. Good place for families.
“Value for money”
This is a five star hotel that unfortunately has succumbed to providing package holidays. This meant that most of the catering is in the buffet style rather than personal service. That said the staff were really friendly and concerned for your enjoyment. We also found the quality compared to the price was excellent. It was definitely value for money. One downside was wine was massively overpriced (the cheapest bottle was £40) but it kept us sober while we were there!! The rooms are very nice and spacious but starting to need updating. The outdoor areas are amazing. Fabulous beach, two pools, tennis courts etc. There is also some entertainment on every night. We would definitely go back.
“Hotel is totally isolated !”
This is a resort hotel, beach front with recreational facilities. However, it is very far from Mauritius International airport (around 75km, US$80 one way taxi fare). It is also totally isolated by itself with no shops/restaurants/houses for several miles. And the hotel did not offer free shuttle to anywhere and only offered high priced taxi transfer. Once, inside the hotel, the hotel guests are trapped and the hotel restaurants are as usual expensive. For mobility, I had to rent a car at US$80 a day. This hotel is only suitable for guests who wish to stay inside the hotel and enjoy the facilities. It is not suitable for guests who wish to explore other attractions in Mauritius. Also, the hotel has no elevator/lift at all. The rooms all have 3 steps from entry foyer to bedroom. It is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. The staff were very friendly.
