“Staff is great!!!”

We stayed at this hotel because it's inexpensive and close to Le Mont St Michele, but didn't expect much. We were pleasantly surprised with nice rooms and a warm staff.

“Surprised and happy!”

I went for a small, inexpensive choice and expected to get something really tacky. I was surprised to find a sweet little hotel with a charming manager who not only spoke English but was helpful in every way, cordial and friendly. The room was much, much larger than expected, and clean with good light and a nice bathroom. I would return here again. Also a nice petit-dejeuner breakfast the next morning. I arrived in Avranches by train and there were NO taxis at 7:30 pm, and without a cell phone, or a phone directory I had to depend on strangers to call me a cab. I got very lucky.

“Comfortable, basic but good value”

My wife and I wanted a hotel for 2 nights close to Cherbourg, the D-Day beaches and Mont St Michel on our way back to England after staying with relatives in central France. The Hotel Altos was ideal - there was free on-street parking and the hotel was within easy walking distance of the attractive town centre of Avranches. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a clean, modern room on the 3rd floor at the back, overlooking houses and gardens. The room had a 'Juliet' balcony with a waist-high railing which would have concerned me a little if we had young children. The bed was very comfortable, the TV was modern but with only 5 French channels and the shower was hot and powerful. Sadly there were no facilities for making tea or coffee but the wi-fi worked well. There is an adjoining restaurant next door which we did not use. Slight criticisms were that we were near the lift which we heard at night, and the separate toilet area was tiny. Our rate included a continental breakfast which was healthy and had a good variety of choices. It was a bit like staying in a Holiday Inn Express - fairly basic but modern, friendly, clean and perfectly adequate for my wife and I who spent most of the day out sightseeing. I would happily stay there again.

“Good basic accomodation with excellent friendly service”

We booked this as a stop off on the way to Caens and were delighted to discover a lovely town with plenty of architecture & restaurants. The hotel proprietor couldn't have been nicer and overall we would be very happy to stay here again. We visited with our two children in a family room.

“Friendly Service”

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two nights while touring Normandy. The hotel room was clean and simple. In the bathroom there was no shower, just a tub with a removable sprayer. In the toilet room the light fixture wasn't in, just a bulb hanging by wires. The hotel is only 20 minutes from Mont St. Michel making it a quick trip to the abbey. The front desk staff was more than friendly. They always went the extra step to make our stay enjoyable.

“Honest Staff (Owner)”

My family of 4 stayed here overnight on 11/21/06 since this was one of the very few hotels in this area that would allow 4 persons in a room (We have two little kids). We arrived after dark and checked out early next morning, so I couldn't tell much of the hotel except it satisfied our basic needs. I just want to say that the staff (he turned out to be the owner) was a very nice man, who found and returned my son's wallet (with all the Euro and American money inside) to us along with a coin from Norte Dame, after we came back from dinner. Obviously, my son dropped it when we were checking in. We had been to many places and would not have known that he had dropped the wallet at the lobby.. All in all, it was our first trip to France, and we've met many good people!
