“Very welcoming”
We arrived for two nights in Johannesburg and were made very welcome at the Rosebank Hotel. My children were delighted with the modern design and breakfast buffet.
“It really is a new hotel!”
I stayed in The Rosebank Hotel in 2007 and found it pleasant enough but a little drab. It then closed for 'refurbishment', which seems to be South African for 'knocking down and rebuilding'! It has been transformed into a modern, hip hotel with loads of nice little touches and great service. The highlight is the 'Fresh' restaurant with its extensive buffet options. Highly recommended.
“Absolutely Excellent”
I cannot stress enough how great and accomodating the staff were. I loved satying at the Rosebank Hotel.
“Decent Business/Vacation hotel”
Everything as it should be in the hotel. Hotel supplied taxis are pretty expensive, so if you are planning to use taxis, find a couple of numbers on the web before you go. Not having been to Jo'burgh for many years, I found myself nervous walking near the hotel at night.
“New Hotel; contemporary style; nice/safe location”
It has been a nice trip. Staying at this hotel I felt confortable and safe. Hotel entrance and lift entrance always checked 24 hours a day. Service was good and room was new and nice/confortable with nice shower/bath. I enjoyed and I cannot complaint. I would raccomand this hotel to others.
“Not bad overall”
I had a nice stay, but there were a few things that bothered me. One, there is still a pending authorization for the amount of the stay on my credit card, even though I paid through Expedia. The other thing was that once when I went out for a bit, I came back and it seemed that someone had been hanging out in my room (tv on, curtains open, bed half made) but nothing had been stolen. Overall, a good hotel. I was satisfied.
“Hotel not ready for travelers”
This hotel has undergone a recent renervation to bring it up to a 5 star quality. They opened the hotel before it was completely ready for occupancy. Elevators didn't work, phones didn't work etc. What worked was extremely good. But to pay 5 star prices for a hotel that was not up that service level was disappointing. If I had not prepaid, I would have asked for a partial refund, or I would have changed hotels. It may be OK now.
“Not Impressed - I would probably not stay again”
I was not impressed with this hotel. It seemed to me very dated. Beginning with the dreadful lobby decor and its champagne and chocolate bar. Why a champagne bar in the lobby - who knows. Also, what was really strange was how unfriendly the staff were - barely a smile the entire time there. South Africa is a very friendly country. I found the staff in general to be very stiff, I even tried joking a with a few of them - forget it. I suspect that management told them to act a certain way. Maybe, the staff can take some mentoring from the great staff at the Bay hotel in Cape Town.
