The hotel, opened in 1928, evokes colonial history, from the crisply attired bell staff to the framed photos of past celebrity guests. The lobby, carefully restored in 1994, retains its 1920s' grandeur and ambience, while the 32-story tower extension, also completed in 1994, features extensive recreational facilities, including a Roman-themed spa with sundeck, the Philippe Starck-designed Felix entertainment complex, and a helipad with its own check-in lounge. There are six on-site restaurants and two bar/lounges and 24-hour room service. Valet parking (surcharge) and childcare (surcharge) are also available. International designer-brand boutiques are located off the lobby.
Rooms
The 300 air-conditioned guestrooms are distributed between the original 1928 building and a 32-story tower built in 1994. Rooms have European-influenced décor and Asian accents, with blues, greens, golds, and ivory dominating. Amenities include bedside control of curtains, air conditioning, and lighting; TVs with satellite channels; HBO; ESPN; free movie channels; DVD players; silent fax machines; direct-dial phones; valet-call buttons; and outside temperature and humidity indicator. Complimentary amenities include high-speed (wired) and wireless Internet access, local calls, and bottled water.
Oversized marble bathrooms feature separate showers and tubs, built-in LCD TVs, hands-free phones, and complimentary toiletries.

Dining
Gaddi's - French haute cuisine with a fine wine list. Rare artworks including pieces by Marc Chagall and George Chinnery, as well as a 16th-century Chinese screen and antique silverware dating from the hotel's opening in 1928. Live soft-jazz in the evenings, and a small dance floor. Open for dinner and lunch Monday to Saturday.
The Verandah - Mediterranean cuisine in a relaxed setting overlooking the forecourt fountain. Ceiling fans and palms recreate 1930s' tropical elegance. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as weekend afternoon tea.
Chesa - A little piece of Switzerland in Hong Kong since 1965. Modeled after an Alpine chalet and specializing in Swiss regional specialties, particularly raclette and fondue. Open for lunch and dinner.
Spring Moon - A recreation of how the hotel's authentic Cantonese restaurant would have looked in 1928, with stained glass, wood paneling, and art-deco highlights. Tea-masters match dim sum specialties to a large selection of Chinese teas. Open for lunch and dinner.
Two bar/lounges

Felix - Designed with an offbeat sense of humor by Philippe Starck. Several themes under one roof, including the Wine Bar, Balcony, American Bar, and Crazy Box. Pacific Rim cuisine, and panoramic harbor and city views. Open every night.
Imasa - Contemporary Japanese cuisine with tableside preparation of sushi and tempura. Fresh seasonal ingredients are flown from Japan. Open for lunch and dinner.
The Bar - A relaxed setting for a quiet drink, with deep armchairs and wicker furniture evoking images of Somerset Maugham. Open late afternoon to midnight.

Recreation
The Roman-themed Peninsula Spa features a 60-foot pool with waterfall, two spa tubs, and a sundeck overlooking the harbor. A retractable glass screen allows year-round use. The health center offers extensive facilities, including saunas, steam rooms, spa tubs, and massage rooms. Towels, robes, and work-out wear are available for guests' use.
Jogging is available along the promenade, opposite, or in Kowloon Park, three blocks away.

Spa
Located on the 7th and 9th floors, the Peninsula Spa by ESPA offers a tranquil oasis in bustling Hong Kong. All treatments include use of thermal suites to relax, cleanse, and prepare the body for treatments, as well as use of relaxation lounges overlooking the city's famous Victoria Harbour and skyline. Contemporary design married with elements of traditional Chinese décor create a spacious and inviting getaway.
The spa menu reflects an influence of Eastern, Ayurvedic, and modern European concepts. Treatment therapists undergo intensive training to provide services and packages that seamlessly blend together, promoting a true retreat for the body and mind.
Peninsula Ceremonies – Signature Body Treatments (90 minutes):
This array of treatment ceremonies, especially designed by ESPA for The Peninsula Spa, is intricate, sophisticated, and holistic. Begin with a Peninsula Tea Ceremony, an in-depth consultation, and a fresh ginger foot buff to promote spiritual grounding. A salt and oil body scrub follows, before warm ESPA oils are poured onto the body and hot volcanic basalt lava stones are used for intensive massage. Jade stones massaged on the forehead and scalp refresh the skin and restore tonicity. Herbal concentrates blended with heated body masks of oshadi clay, marine algae, or mud are smoothed on, and the body cocooned in natural linens. Acupressure facial massage helps revitalise the skin, and peace of mind is achieved with a luxurious Oriental head massage.
ESPA Ayurvedic Influence – Chakra Balancing with Volcanic Stones (90 minutes):
An herbal tea infusion and foot cleansing ritual begin the ceremony. Skin brushing, exfoliation and an express ESPA facial begin the treatment. Specific placement of volcanic stones on the energy centers achieves new balance and grounding. A total body massage with ESPA-blended aromatherapy oils and Ayurvedic herbal concentrate rebalance and re-energise.
Detoxifier Massage (50 or 80 minutes):
Detoxifying body oil is used with a blend of citrus oils, which have natural diuretic properties to flush away toxins.
Destressor Massage (50 or 80 mintues):
Specially blended soothing aromatherapy oils are used, which have relaxing and calming properties to help guests destress.
Jet-Lag Eliminator Massage (50 or 80 minutes):
This treatment helps to rebalance energy levels by lifting spirits with energising oil and relaxing the body into untroubled sleep with soothing oils.

“Real luxury in Hong Kong”
I decided to treat my fiance to a couple of nights at the Pen at the end of our trip to Hong Kong. The attention to detail and level of service were immediate from the moment we walked into the fantastic lobby; escorted all the way to our room; the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on; widescreen TV with DVD in the main (large) room; umbrellas for you to borrow in the wardrobe; and (best of all) a TV in the bath! The pool is rather good as well, swimming with a view of the harbour and Hong Kong island.

COME IN and FEEL HOME - this might be the motto of THE PENINSULA. The room leaves no whishes open - the bed sleeps perfectly well. Starting from the welcome tea, the several gifts for the children and the utmost best service made our stay very pleasant. Thank you very much - and hopefully until the next time ....

Fantastic in all respects
“Every aspect was impressive”
From the moment I was met at the airport gate (not just outside), through the lightning-fast checkout, this hotel was impressive. When the airline lost my luggage, the hotel called them every couple of hours until all was found, updating me all the way. The restaurants were superb, service was polite and respectful enough to make us feel welcome and wanted, shopping was brilliant, and rooms were spacious, luxurious, airy and comfortable.

The Peninsula offers its guests the very best of everything. The rooms provided every comfort and amenity. The staff was very attentive, helpful and friendly - nothing was ever too much trouble. The restaurant (The Veranda)served very fine food, and the wait staff were flawless in their service. The concierge service was great in recommending trips and activities to the newcomer to Hong Kong.
“Perfection”
Best service I have ever experienced. The spa was also top rate, but the sauna/steam area was a bit smaller than I had expected. The harbor view from the spa helped make up for it. The hotels restaurants were the best meals of the trip-specifically Gaddi's and Spring Moon. Get the peking duck at Spring Moon, I still dream about it. Also, having the hotels fleet of Rolls Royce pick you up or drop you off is worth the splurge.

This property is certainly one of the most beautiful places I've stayed. Steeped in history, the hotel is rich with heritage and memories of the people who have worked very hard to preserve her integrity. A remarkable place.
