“very good will stay here again”

travelling with a baby is not easy so staying in 5 sqm room in a dodgy mansion were not an option this time. as soon as we arrived they offered a cot free of charge with beddings. everything was clean and safe enough for baby to crawl around in the room. we didnt try the restaurant, but downstairs you can find a lot of cheaper restaurants that were always happy to move around chairs and tables to fit our pram. we taxi'ed most of the time but Jordan MTR station is like 5min walk away.

Area recommendations
mongkok for street market, food, electronics, tsimshatsui, central for western brands shopping (less crowded than kowloon side)

“More central than Central Station”

This is my first time in a hotel in HK. So far, the hotel does not disappoint. Not to difficult to get to via train. Staff are friendly. I have not used the gym facility, wi-fi and their restaurant so I cannot comment on that. The condition of the room is well maintained. Room was quite spacious for a non-smoking three single bed room. Did not smell smoky at all in the non-smoking area unlike 4 star hotels in Macau. Temple street is close by and if you wish for some dim sums, there are two restaurants that I found are within walking distance (one on Saigon St, don't remember the other one). Easy to get to Oceanpark and Disneyland via trains and buses. Two department stores within walking distance. If you want labelled goods, hop on the bus to Harbour City, Easy. All in all, hotel was as described, perfect for short stay. Hotel rates are good too.

Area recommendations
Nathan road shopping strip, temple street, wing on department store, Harbour City via bus route 2 and 6. Try dim sum in restaurant on Saigon St, cheap compared to Australian standards. Try Ootoro Japanese on Nathan road or opposite TimeSquare in Causeway, average pricing depending on what you order but sooo good. Even the McDonalds and KFC are cheap and good. Try different burgers and stuff that are missing in your countries menus. You will be surprised. Saint Anna Bakery cakes and baked goods are good too found in most train stations. Clothing - everywhere. Disneyland is worth it, go on a weekday - NEVER a weekend. OceanPark is so-so, tickets are cheaper than Disney land. Go to Macau in a day-trip to see some famous landmarks and eat the Portuguese egg tarts. Would only recommend overnight if you are interested in Casinos.

“great value for the price, excellent location”

This hotel staff is excellent...very helpful for neophyte travelers to Hong Kong. The congierge really tried to please us, with info, arrangements, etc. The only negative was the size of our room---very small, but not unusual for hotels in China. We were in China for a month..and this is the first hotel we stayed that internet was free...and even worked to and from the States.

Area recommendations
This is as good as any...easy subway access (one block away) that will take you anywhere..four stops from Hong Kong Island center. A twenty hongkong dollar ($2.50) trip by taxi to the ferry to Macau. Only two blocks from the night market.

“Nathan, nice place to stay”

Everything about the hotel was good, it was especially close to the Temple Street Market and Jade Market, and only a short distance from the Jordan Train Station. The hotel was more than adequate if you just want a nice clean comfortable room in the heart of Kowloon. One small complaint was that there are only 2 elevators and one was out of service for the 3 days that we were there, so there was usually a long wait whle trying to get up or down..

“The best hotel in Hong Kong”

This is without a doubt the best hotel in Hong Kong in this price category. The staff were more than helpful, the rooms were magnificent and service was beyond reproach. We requested two rooms alongside each other for us and our children and this was no problem. Tours can be arranged easily downstairs with no additional fees charged. The hotel is located perfectly with access to shops, markets and public transport a breeze. All in all our stay at the Nathan Hotel was wonderful and I thank them.

“Fine location and friendly staff”

The hotel location was fine. The hotel room was clean but the bed and furniture were a little worn out. The reception staff were helpful and friendly.

“Great Location & Exceptional Service”

Excellent location, close to MTR station. Good service. Only downside is there was only two lifts...means a bit of time waiting around for one. Starbucks in the lobby which makes things easy when grabbing a quick bite/coffee in the morning before tours.

“Couldn't find a fault”

100% satisfied with my stay. Arrived at 8.00am but was able to check in immediately (and upgraded to Nathan Grand room) Found all staff to be friendly . courteous and attentive. Excellent breakfast facilities with full range of foods. Perhaps the best points about the Nathan rooms were the little things such as choice of pillow types, full range of toiletries, small stationery items. The full buffet breakfast and 24/7 access to the Nathan Lounge with its 2 computers, TV, free beverages, books etc. makes the little extra cost of Nathan and higher grade rooms well worthwhile. On check-out (mid morning) was able to securely leave luggage to collect later in day for evening flight. Will certainly stay there if in HK again and would have no hesitation in recommending.

Area recommendations
The Kowloon area, particularly Nathan Road, is ideal for the leisure travellers. It is not only central for many of the popular markets, shops etc but also for transport to other areas of HK including Hong Kong Island. It appears to provide plenty of good quality accommodation at affordable prices. The markets just off Nathan Road (both day and night) add a great atmosphere but be prepared for high level hustle and bustle at all times in the area. There is never a quiet moment and it is definately wall to wall with people. The traffic volume is a revelation and considering the speed at which both the double decker buses and cars/taxis travel and change lanes it is amazing that there are not regular prangs. In the 8 days I was there I did not see one! 13 million people plus visitors in such a small area as Hong Kong will undoubtedly leave a lasting memory. For my wife and I it is very much a good memory
When to go
I would undoubtedly suggest November through to possibly February. November for me was just right. A mild temperature (low to mid 20's) and low rainfall. These are their Winter months and avoids the heavier and more frequent raind and overpowering high temperatures/humidity in the rest of the year. Even the locals find them hard to accept.
Getting around
An Octopus card is a must. Buses and MTR (rail) are excellent. Both are frequent , comfortable and low cost. Seniors travel at half price. The MTR is a very similar facility/set-up to the London Underground. Taxis I understand are also very cheap and often for shot hops are probably cheaper for a non-senior couple or small group than public transport. The Star Ferry is an option for crossing to Hong Kong Island.
Shopping
A shoppers paradise. The leading stores are not cheap by Australian standards but the markets and smaller outlets are a different matter. What you pay will depend on your bargaining skills. Never want something so badly you're not prepared to walk away if you can't get it at your price. That will often clinch the deal.
