Room acoustics are extremely terrible, you hear everything above you and next you. Hotel in addition has dubious payment procedure that means you pay upon check out but when you check in they hold the same amount simultaneously including an additional deposit holding on top of regular fees. so you pay twice and wait until the first authorisation drops off. Never seen this at another hotel anywhere. Its such bad practice.

Nice hotel, great staff in a good location.
We gave an event in Hamburg every year and we always chose to stay at The George. This is because it is a great hotel with lovely and helpful staff and nice comfortable and clean rooms. It is also located in a great area for restaurants and bars.

We have stayed here many times and, overall, it is always a very pleasant hotel with friendly staff and nicely situated in the city. We travel with our 2 dogs and there is a convenient place to walk them just across the street. However, when it comes to housekeeping, we find that, even after asking for service while out, we come back and the room has not been attended to.

Unique hotel in Hamburg
Room had an unpleasant ‘dirty diaper’ smell. Hotel itself is a quirky boutique feel. Down side is breakfast is 22€ per person. Bar prices are likewise high. Best to walk a couple of meters off site to eat.

Could do better
Great area downstairs, modern with a good bar area. Rooms need some love. Sauna area limited to one couple at a time but it want checked prior to our visit. Water heater was off, jugs of water empty, dirty cups from previous guests. Good location for getting around. Staff on reception friendly and helpful.

Full points for cleanliness, that is always my top one for any hotel. Room was ok size with large window which was important as for some reason the hotel is dark theme and all areas are pretty dark and not enough light. When I went for dinner I had to use torch on my phone to read the menu. Internet was not great and it was hit and miss as connection kept getting dropped. I had to do some urgent work and had to use hotspot from my phone. Restaurant was great and food was good quality and reasonably priced. I can’t say same about pricing of breakfast at 21.50 euros.

The entire hotel was quite warm. I was unable to turn the temperature down in my room, and opening a window at night was not an option due to the street noise, thus I was unable to get much sleep the first night. They gave me a room facing the lake the second night, which reduced street noise, but it was still very warm in my room. Staff very nice, drinks at the bar were very good. The free jaguar rental is nice, but be sure to get a card to open the garage gate.

Lovely stop for a little rest
I loved my stay. The staff was super friendly and the sauna was a welcomed delight. The WiFi works really well and the decor is lovely. My only complaint was the carpet in my room (gross). I would stay here again if I find myself in Hamburg.

Junior Suite
This was my second stay. Overall lovely hotel with polite staff. However we encountered a delayed check in by almost an hour which is always annoying after you’ve been traveling. The worst part of our 3 night stay was NO WiFi in the corner 1st floor Junior Suite. And I don’t mean spotty I mean ZERO WiFi. After mentioning it over the few days with no real solution from other staff it was only the clerk at check out who acknowledged the ongoing problem. Disappointed to receive no compensation. In 2019 no WiFi is a big problem. A positive was that we were traveling with our 2 dogs and they we received with 2 cozy beds in our room with welcome cookies. All that for 30euros a night x 2=60 euros a day. A little bit of a money grab in my opinion.

Nevertheless, it still occurs from time to time, that rooms, which are not located close to these routers have slower internet. Especially when we are fully booked and a lot of guests are using the Wi-Fi at the same time. It also depends how much data guests are consuming when using the internet (e.g. watching movies, downloading big files, etc.). In these cases it is harder for us to control the speed of our Wi-Fi and we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you had because of this. Staff were very good. Hotel location easy to find - bit of distance out of centre of town but a good flat walk (15 - 20 minutes). Rooms a bit dark in their style design. Comfortable beds. Good dining options up the dtreet as well as in the hotel

The checking in process was smooth, we requested to be on the same floor as our friends and they were accommodating. Room and Bathroom - clean. Breakfast is expensive.

Great location--10 minute walk or quick ride from the Central Station, which is also a great place to do some shopping and grab a meal any time of the day. Close to gay nightlife in Hamburg. Room was okay for the price. Nicely decorated and finished out. I paid for a king room even though I was traveling solo because I like a big bed and extra space. The bed was fine. Not much extra space in the room, and the seating was limited to a small chair in the corner and an upholstered bench tucked under the desk/table across from the bed. There is a wide window sill, and they have pillows on that to make it look like a seating area, but it's really not unless you are under 100 pounds or a twelve year old. The window opened, which I love, but on the second floor--third floor in the U.S.--I could clearly hear conversations from folks sitting out at the street level bar, which went on until after 2 a.m. some days. The staff were very efficient on check-in, but didn't greet me or even make eye-contact when I passed them by exiting and entering, which I did several times a day over the three nights I stayed. I understand German reserve, but those in the hospitality industry need to be more approachable and welcoming. I'm torn about recommending this hotel. It is a great location, but they could be so much better if the staff and management cared and interacted with their customers.

Sometimes I send a note with my Expedia reservation to the hotel about what I need for my room. Simple requests; Firm pillows and 2 liters of water. When I check in at 10 PM, It was not there because they haven't read that msg, and they could not provide the pillow for the first night because the people who can be able to provide the pillows was already left. The second night they found something that mediocre. I gave up asking after. Design of the room is little bit run down. The carpet looks not right in the room. Had a feeling they try too hard to have cool design feeling but have to admit the experience was not good enough, other George hotels were more successful than this one. The restaurant was nice.
