Not a bad location. Close to a lot of things for inner city. Was disappointed that the pool and spa were not stated closed on the website. Still waiting to see if I was charged for upgrades that seems to not go with anything that we recieved. Maybe just a misunderstanding when we checked in. The breakfast served was great. Room service menu was slacking though. All and all a good stay.

Very good location near Neuer Wall. Great amenities (must use spa (sauna, pool and gym). The room is small but lovely.

This was a business trip, so I can't speak to the hotel's location for sightseeing, but I was very happy with all the services, the size of the room, the quality of the room service meal, etc.

Rooms don't live up to the rest of the hotel.
The hotel itself was very sleek and modern; the lobby especially had a great ambience. The concierge staff was also extremely helpful and well-informed about the region. Breakfast was good quality, but could have had more variety for the amount charged per person. The spa also had a lovely mood, and the steam room and sauna were very relaxing; the only thing missing was a hot tub as the pool was only somewhat warm. However, the rooms themselves were less than impressive. The rooms have absolutely zero personality (not even a single photograph or painting on the wall). We immediately noticed that the room we were given reeked of smoke, so much so that breathing felt a bit stifling. After mentioning it to the front desk, we were given a different room, which was unfortunately a downgrade from the original room. The right bedside table was broken, dangerously tilted and barely hanging onto the wall. The mattress topper on the bed was unbelievably lumpy, especially on the top, where it poofed up directly (and uncomfortably) underneath the pillows. To make matters worse, the bedsheets had multiple stains and should never have passed housekeeping inspection. At that point, it was late, and we were too tired to switch rooms yet again. Overall, the hotel's outside look and feel doesn't match its room, which were underwhelming and disappointing.

Check in needs improvement. Good location & clean.
The check in was awful as they kept us waiting for room whilst others arriving after us were given rooms. They were busy and could not cope. Had to wait 20 mins at breakfast for a table. The hotel rooms are small but clean and good condition. Location is convenient and quiet.

Nice location in walking distance of many lovely places. Totally average experience - missed having evening turn down service and the hotel did not provide complimentary water. The staff was responsive but not proactive. It was as expected, nothing more.

We spent 6 days at the Sofitel Alter Wall. Great location. Staff, without exception, are excellent. Very nice Library for cigar lovers. The welcoming patio, with nice canals views, made for a nice spot for a glass of wine before dinner.

Great hotel in Hamburg
Stayed at Alter Wall with my son in july. Very centrally located. I upgraded to luxury room to get great view of the city on the 7th floor. Ask to see room first, then you can decide which view you like best. Spacious modern room with great beds. Bathroom with shower and bathtub. Breakfast very tasty for both of us, lots to choose from. Friendly service from all the staff i met. The swimming pool was awesome, we used it every day. Children can only use it in a time period but it was no problem for us. Problaby staying here next time in Hamburg.

Steam sauna is working again!
I have stayed in this hotel several times and it is still the best business hotel in Hamburg in my opinion. In addition to that I am happy to say that steam sauna is finally working! It has been a while since the last time I visited it, great to be back in full package Sofitel! Cigar lounge is simply outstanding, can stay there for hours smoking cigar and enjoying drinks. Feels like you sit in somebodys library at home. One of the best benedict eggs in the world, strongly recommend! Sekt is still available at the breakfast, what a treat from Sofitel. Enjoy!

The staff is superior and responsive. Also, the restaurant on site is fabulous. The food is by far the best food I've ever had in a Hotel. Flavorful with a beautiful presentation and the staff is impeccable. Make sure you have at least one dinner during your stay.

The hotel was fine. I think it is a odd space for a hotel Having the rooms on a split level to me is dumb I got annoyed at having to walk up 8 steps to leave the floor and carrying my suitcase up and down was a drag.
