“We had a lovely stay”
We had a lovely stay in the Clifton Hotel. We were not happy with the room we were given because it faced the main road and was a bit noisy, so we were moved to a quieter room the next day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and advised us where to find local shops and buses and so on. The Scottish breakfasts were great. They were well cooked and generous enough to keep us going all day. Although the building itself is quite old it has been refurbished and modernized very well and our room was big and comfortable. The shower was forceful because it had a pump. The location is superb. It’s literally just over the road from the Botanic Gardens and close to bus stops and the subway station in Byres road. There are plenty of shops, pubs etc nearby but the local launderette is rather pricy. Recommendation: take the subway rather than the bus to get to town.
“Clifton Hotel, Glasgow”
This was a really nice hotel. In fact, closer to a bed and breakfast. Breakfast was included in the price, which was also reasonable. There was a typical continental breakfast, but also a traditional Scottish breakfast of eggs, beans, tomato, mushrooms, pork sausage, bacon (more like thick ham than the typical American bacon), toast, coffee/tea/juice. Cooked fresh every morning when you order it. The owner/manager/staff was very friendly and helpful. We traveled with a 4 year old and the hotel turned out to be kid friendly. So overall, a great experience. Parking and wireless issues aside, I would highly recommend it.

“Guests are an inconvenience to the staff”
Absolutely nothing wrong with the facilities. Rooms were big and clean and hotel is accurate to its description online however... We weren't allowed to park in the car park despite there being spaces as the staffs relatives work vans had to be out in the morning. We arrived on time for breakfast yet had to wait 10 minutes for a table so staff disputed as to whether we were entitled to the cooked breakfast as we didn't sit down until 9.10am The following morning we waited 25 minutes for a table and witnessed a similar breakfast dispute about breakfast between another guest and staff. It really felt as though we were, as guests, in the way and the staff would have much preferred that they could run a hotel but without guests requiring things like... BREAKFAST! If you can avoid the staff then it's a great value hotel and in a fantastic location in Glasgow.
