“Surprised but happy customer”

A great place to totally relax. We went in early December before the Christmas peak. Only an hour and a quarter from Nadi by the Nadi to Suva bus. Beach is not for swimming and snorkling was only fair. Pool and staff were excellent. Food was OK but expensive. Price of drinks was ridiculously high. Good gym but absolutely nowhere to run - except the highway! Quilt on bed was too heavy - need featherdown quilts! Otherwise bathroom/room was brilliant. I'm fussy! The tapas/bar up on the hill was great. Everyone was in bed by 9pm. No night life which suited us old baby boomers!

Area recommendations
Nadi was not worth going inot. Sigatoka was a pleasant surprise. Otherwise not much to see or visit unless you take an expensive boat trip from Nadi out to the islands.

“Wedding Guest experience -”

The wedding of our god daughter was done expertly and vows were beautiful and taken from a selection made available to them.. The lunch was beautiful - not overdone - but filling and the focus was on taste

Area recommendations
Sigatoka - we looked through the markets - amazing the way the townspeople live - we were lucky enough to go to one of the local villages and find out first hand their living accommodations etc
Getting there
Going from Australia to Fiji - the flight is OK 3.5 hrs - it is the travel then by car to the venue which takes the time - and then with the 3 hours ahead of time we are - you are usually utterly exhausted by the time you get there and have usually lost the whole first day
Family-friendly activities
Their child minding facilities appear to be excellent - The staff are totally committed to providing the children with a good time and the activities they involve them in is wonderful including their own luncheon.

“Am planing to go back next year!”

The staff were so friendly there and the bed was soooo comfy. The food was a little more expensive than they should be, and it would have been better if they serve more seafood, particularly fish, since fish is a main part of the local diet!

Area recommendations
The resort was really lovely and relaxing, but would definitely recommend getting out of the resort to experience the real Fiji as well. The locals are very friendly, some might come across as a bit hard-sell, but you just have to be able to say no and walk away. We didn't encounter any trouble getting around town. We didn't get around to visiting any local villages, so will definitely have to go back and do it next year. If you're wanting to experience the local villages, be aware that there are local customs and protocols that must be observed, but the people there are pretty happy to explain these rules to tourists.
Getting there
getting around by taxi is pretty cheap, though if you don't mind crowded buses, then getting on a local bus can take you from the east coast to the west for around $15 Fijian dollars (and that's for about 2.5 hours of travel!) Taxis are meant to be metered there, but none of the ones we got on had a meter, so the lesson we learnt was to negotiate a price before you hop on, and to avoid the ones that don't look like a taxi at all.

“Super Holiday”

We have just returned from a super holiday at the Outrigger. Everything about this resort is fantastic! The setting is amazing with wonderful gardens and the pool area is perfect with plenty of seating and shade when needed. The staff are all so friendly and willing to help with any query. We loved it! The restaurants are quite expensive but not more than one would expect from a 5 star resort; we actually went out to another hotel a short walk away for a couple of meals which we also enjoyed.

“Perfect place for a wedding ---”

Fantastic views from Chapel and great gardens for the pics. Wedding was fantastic - the staff amazing and so friendly. Had the fire dancers which were awesome! Food in all restauants was very good and plenty of choice. Rooms were spotless - clean sheets every other day - wish I'd upgraded to a Bure they were very nice. Plenty of activities going on even on days when weather was a little dodgy. Swimming pool was beautiful and the Bebe Spa fantastic. Downside is the long drive from the airport but worth it. I recommend this hotel for an amazing wedding experience or a great family holiday.

“Fantastic spot for family R&R”

We stayed in April 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and what it had to offer. Whilst the beachside bar and grill was being refurbished it did not detract from our stay but did take away one dining option. The hotel is a long drive from the airport but when you get there it is absolutely worth it. We hired a car and made our own way around for the week which was very easy and hassle free. The food was good (breakfast was great!) but the menu did not change at any of the restaurants other than the themed buffet. There are a couple of restaurants in other resorts in walking distance (10 mins max) that are also very good and good value for money. We stayed in 2010 at the Shangri-La and Outrigger was a far better holiday experience and ambience than the Shangri-La, and we would go back to the Outrigger in a heartbeat. We spent a day driving and visiting as many resorts as we could on the Coral Coast, and came to the conclusion we had made the best choice based on ourt brief experiences at the others. All the staff are fantastic and could not do enough to help. We are about to book for 2012 again - Cant wait!

Area recommendations
We visited Sigatoka through to Suva and had a drive to see the country side and attractions. Lots of great scenery and tours

“Don't go here - Denarau Island resorts are much better”

Outrigger is at least a 90 minute drive from the airport and due to pot holes in Nadi it took me nearly two hours after arriving in the dark. There is nothing else anywhere near Outrigger so you are stuck at the resort. During my stay I was unable to relax at the pool or beach due to construction work on one of the 3 restaurants which went on all day every day, including Sunday. It also meant that the already fairly limited choice for meals was cut down to 2 (an Asian poolside bar/cafe with about 8 things on the menu or the larger restaurant which had a themed buffet each night (2 nights being seafood which I can't eat). One other restaurant (expensive) but did not allow kids. No other menu available and the in-room dining experience is one I would rather forget. There are no other restaurants nearby and so you soon get bored with the same choices each day, although the breakfast is not bad, o its a good idea to fill up on that. The resort may well have been 5 stars 30 years ago but not now, maybe 3 1/2 if I am generous. The room are tired and dated and badly in need of renovation. The ironing board wouldn't stay up the TV reception was very poor, internet cable broken, beds worn and saggy. The spa has a good view but again hardly relaxing with the sound of construction in the not too far distance and treatments were expensive and only average. The only positive thing I could say is that the staff were pretty happy and pleasant enough.

Area recommendations
None. The are no towns in Fiji that you would want to visit. Stick to the resorts, which means you might as well go to one where there is more choice - like the ones at Denarau.

“OUTRIGGER”

Love the service that is provided by staff at outrigger. If you have the extra few $$ choose a room with Ta-lie butler service. Makes you feel very important and well looked after. Food gets a 1 star from us and will prevent us from returning again. Very expensive for the quality. Don't mind paying good $$ if you get good food. Had a wedding there and food was 5 star so i now they can cook, they just don't do it well outside special functions. poolside dinning needs a real good overhaul. Rooms are nice but dont stay in lagoon wings if you can deal with the huge walk from the rooms to the pool/entertainment. Rooms in lagoon are very small in comparison to the normal wing. Pool surface could do with a re-surface as it really hurts and dose some pretty serious gravel rash damage to kids (and those of us acting like kids!!)

Area recommendations
The people at outrigger are sensational, rooms are great and location is up there also (expect the beach but we are on the coral cost so you can't expect too much soft white sand!) Unfortunately their food is definitely the downfall. All this lovely fresh produce but no idea how to cook it. Very expensive and lacking in diversity. Work on that guys and i will return over and over again.
Dining
in need of some serious attention. Have been to outrigger 5 times and food is getting worse each trip. Will not return due to this and the lack of external restraint options.
