Freehand New York

2/10 Terrible

"We loved our four night stay at The Freehand and will hopefully return. Great location, well maintained, attractive atmosphere, helpful staff, fun bars. I recommend choosing the slightly larger rooms with a modest sitting area."

"Room was not well kept, hardwood floor was scratched all over, bathrooms were not totally clean. Front desk staff were not that helpful. I wanted to ship some item back to my home the person in charge of shipping was not the helpful. I ended up walking to near by UPS to get help. I wanted the hotel keep our luggage while waiting for our ride back to airport I had to pay cash for that service. Generally staff service was not satisfactory, specially for premium price we paid."

"It’s the kind of hotel that gets the job done for a short business trip where you just need a place to sleep. No frills and not much to speak of in terms of amenities. I will say, it seemed a bit diabolical that the alarm clock had been set to 6am before my arrival - an unplanned awakening given my late checkin and jet lag. The fact that both of my colleagues- in different rooms on different floors — had the same thing happen points to this being something staff had set?"

"The staff was incredible and made my stay even that much better. I had an issue the the AC and they moved me right away. They cleaned the room everyday and had free water in the room everyday. It’s right by grand central so it’s a good location if you need to take a train. The room was fairly spacious which was great considering the location."
