“If you know how to use trains”
I have stayed here many times- some lengthy stays as well. Short walk to Alstadt, tram right across the street. Cozy bar- great breakfast.
“Great Stay”
All was great. Enjoyed the hotel & surroundings.
“Visit to the Christmas Market”
We stayed here for one night to visit the Christmas Market. It was about 30 minutes walk from the main Dusseldorf train station and 15 minutes walk to the Christmas Market in the city center. It was a nice area (seemed safe and quiet), and we don't mind walking. The hotel was clean and quiet. Our room wasn't ready for us at 1:30 (a little early for check-in) but they kept our bags so we could get out and see the town. The room was big enough, especially by European standards. The breakfast, included in the price, was fantastic! They even had a waffle iron to make your own waffles!
“Great inexpensive hotel in Dusseldorf in near the Media Harbor”
Great location near the harbor in a nice residential area of Dusseldorf. S-Bahn stop across the street. Really great breakfast (included in price). There is an elevator. Beds are very comfortable with individual duvets for double beds. Very inexpensive and great value for the price. Staff speaks English fluently. Great value - would definitely stay here again.
“Satisfactory short stay”
Quiet, convenient location at 5 minutes from the Rhine Tower and good restaurants. Good buffet breakfast.

nice simple small hotel. tricky to find and has onstreet parking but in a nice safe area. good restaurant. trompeter, around corner, otherwise a good walk to city centre. good wifi and breakfast, rooms small.
“Not exactly 4 star but OK just the same”
The hotel is not 4 star as described - at best it is 3. It is in a safe area opposite the main police station - can't get better than that. Parking is on the road and payable although for a city it is relatively cheap - around 10 euros a day. It is a pleasant 15 to 20 minute walk to the Altstadt along the Rhine. To the fair ground (Messe) a 15 minute car journey - very simple and direct. It is more complicated by public transport - take a tram opposite the hotel to the main station and then change and go directly to the Messe. Breakfast was more than ample with a good selection. The rooms are a little tired but clean, warm and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the WiFi was free. There is no provision for room service or meals other than breakfast but there are some decent restaurants in the surrounding area - try the tapas bar just 5 mins walk - it is superb. Failing that there is every type of food you can imagine in the Altstadt. If on business and with a car we would stay there again. For what we paid you really could not complain - just don'y pay the rack rate.
“Okay if looking for a no-frills stay in Dusseldorf”
Kastens' staff was helpful and friendly, the free breakfast was very nice, and the bathroom was nice (clean, good water pressure, toiletries provided) but the hotel had a very small staff, so if you needed towels or anything from the front, you pretty much had to go down and get them yourself, and the beds were not the most comfortable. Beds were hard, sheets were starchy, and our "double" room was just two twin beds pushed together, with one twin sized comforter for each person. Nothing is that far away in Dusseldorf, so you could walk everywhere from Kastens, so if you are looking for a deal, this could be it. Just don't expect the same type of stay that you'd have at a chain hotel.

The walls are a little thin between rooms. Aside from that, it was a nice boutique styel hotel.
