“Like a home away from home”

The Kingsgate in Dunedin was like a home away from home. The staff were friendly and supportive, the food in the restuarant was lovely and surprisingly inexpensive and the rooms were were equipped and very comfortable. Outstanding. Would come to this Hotel again.

“Pleasant stay”

Service from staff was always friendly and helpful. My stay included breakfast which was very helpful. I was in Dunedin to attend a course and undertake an exam, so the location and warmth and condition of the hotel was very good. Only negative would be that the lighting in the room was inadequate due to absence of main light in the ceiling. Most lamps provided were dim and the one study lamp was connected to the only power point available, and I needed this to charge my phone and laptop. However, upon request, I was promptly supplied with an extension switchboard which was excellent. Location was quiet and no noise was heard at night.

“Perfectly all right”

Clean, basic accommodation. Nothing fancy. Outstanding breakfast buffet, though!

“Short stay in Dunedin”

Dated but comfortable, pleasant views and relatively quiet. Convenient carpark and helpful staff. Close to city centre. Restaurant food is OK. Would stay here again.

“Great staff and good hotel close to town.”

Nice hotel if slightly stuck in the Seventies style-wise. However, the staff were outstanding, especially after I made a mistake about which room we were in and ended up taking someone else's room in a booked-out hotel - long story, suffice to say they sorted everything out and were charm personified. The room was certainly big and well-appointed enough for our one-night stay. Even had a balcony with a great view. Really comfy bed too. The hotel is close to Dunedin city centre, being just above the Octagon, but be aware that there is limited parking outside and it's a steep hill coming back up if you're walking.

“Comfortable centrally located hotel”

Big rooms if a little dated, but very clean. Able to do your own laundry is a bonus in a hotel rather than finding laundromat. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Good central location near Octagon.

“weary travelers”

The first room had a very bad clicking noise and we had to ask for it to be looked at. the manager came. He agreed there was a bad noise but would we be happy to stay in it, we were asked a couple of times!, we said no and were put in another room which was great
