“A Gem of a Country House”
So when we discovered that after 15 hours of travel we'd have 30 minutes more on the city bus, we sighed. We were tired and although the ride was full of interesting things, colorful neighborhoods and pubs, a tiny castle, we were let off by the very helpful bus driver to face a long driveway. Down it we went, luggage and all. We were expecting an upscale hotel but found instead somewhere so special. It still has the solid charm and authenticity of the by-gone era. Lot's of people get married there. We watched a trad music group perform in the garden our first night. One of the owners, when he found out I was a restauranteur gave me a tour. He was filled with interesting factoids and I think was showing me around because he was proud to be a part of this great tradition. The front desk could not have been more helpful even helping us avoid men from the pub in town who wanted to track us down. Food was excellent, and oh, the bathtub! You could swim in it. Towels were fluffy, everything was spotless. Having coffee in our little breakfast nook, watching the peacocks and the magpies in the morning.... I missed this place all the rest of our stay. There were many amenities like tennis, pool, steamroom we did not use but it was nice to know they are there. Half way between Dublin City Center and Finnstown is a pub called The Gate. Stay at Finnstown, have a Jameson at the Gate and you will be in Irish heaven....Oh and tell them Barbara and Betsy from Wisconsin sent you!
“Would love to go back”
We found the service in this hotel very friendly and efficient. All food and drink consumed here was excellent. We cannot fault anything.
“Worth every penny!”
The Finnstown Country House Hotel was much more than we expected. The hotel itself is a beautiful country mansion, decorated as if a wealthy Irish family lives there. The staff was fantastic. We arrived about 9:30 am Dublin time and I asked the front desk if I could leave our bags somewhere until check in. The front desk clerk did one better - she checked us into a room! She called to a busy employee to perform the "room show". She walked us through the grounds to the building across from the main hotel to show us our family room. We were traveling with 5 total - Dad, Mom and 3 kids. The room had a double and single bed with another single cot set up. We ate breakfast, swam in the pool and walked around a bit before having to nap off some jet lag. We went back to the room about noon and a second cot was set up and ready to sleep in - we never even asked. The room was very spacious and well appointed, nicely decorated, and had heavy drapes that blocked out the sunlight quite well.. There was a round, wooden coffee table with two chairs that were befitting of a dining room. There was a large wooden armoire with drawers, shelves, and plenty of space for hanging clothes (we packed light, but all 5 of us got 4+ days worth of clothes in there). A flat panel tv was mounted on the wall. There was also a desk and chair with internet available (paid serviced only; no wifi in the room, wired only). The bathroom was well stocked with towels, soap, and shampoo.
“The best hotel ever!”
This is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in, the perfect spot for my honeymoon! First of all the grounds alone are amazing - especially the resident peacock! The staff was outstanding and so helpful. Every night we would go to the desk for directions for our next adventure and they were more than happy to help us. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, it is just outside of Dublin and you can walk to the bus stop and not deal with the hassel of parking (or driving) and Lucan is a charming little city. We loved it!
“Beyond Expectations”
This hotel is amazing. The people there were so nice and went out of their way to assist us in any way that they could. You couldn't ask for a nicer staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone that's visiting the Dublin ara.
“A Quiet Respite”
The Finnistown Country House Hotel was absolutely beautiful. It impressed us as an Irish Manor from the front door to our room. It was a quiet and eloquent stay for us.
“finnstown country house hotel”
hey not a bad hotel. it was value for money. we had a good stay. its far from dublin city centre. no good if you like the night life or traveling by public transport. it takes 50mins from dublin center to the nearset bus stop then a 15min walk to the hotel. a nice walk up the long driveway up to the impressive looking manor house. 1st night we stayed in the annex. omg the room was large a king and a single bed. mmm old world charm was expected, not out of date shabby furniture. needed up dating (which is happening soon, redeveloping that area and the gym). we moved for the remainder of the holiday to th main house. couldnt fault the rooms. beautiful. breakfastroom lovely charmming. liht and airy. lots to choose from from full irish to continental, smoked salmon to pancakes. communication breakdown happend a couple of times. the left hand didnt know what the right hand was doing. i would recommend this hotel if you hire a car. ENJOY. C.
“Excellent value & lovely staff”
I visited the Finnstown with my daughter & mother, and found the hotel staff were extremely polite & helpful, although they had a problem with the pool, and children could not swim after 5.30 the reception staff went out of the way to accomodate my daughters desperate request to go swimming! - The food in both the bar & restaurant was very good and the barman very friendly - and good at his job - remembering my order ( or does that say a lot about my drinking habits ????)
“Wonderful place to stay”
I loved the week we spent at Finnstown. The staff bent over backwards to accomidate our requests. The food was great and we asked for and were given advice on travel and local customs.
