“A Little Style in Cork”
We stayed at this hotel and got a great deal with Expedia. Not sure I would have been too impressed to pay the hotel's usual rates, but the discount we got through Expedia made our stay great value for money. The hotel has great character, and all the staff were really friendly. It's only a five minute walk to the main centre of Cork, so it's a great location. It has a friendly resident's bar, but there are other bars on the same street with great atmosphere. Try the Cork Arms if you like a more traditional atmosphere, but look no further than Shelbourne's for a cracking night out. Would definitely stay again.
“Absolute Perfection”
I was in Cork for work, my first time visiting. This hotel was fabulous. Of course everything in Ireland is smaller than the states - so the room was a tad bit compact... however, being a solo traveler, it was perfect. the service was great, the complimentary breakfast was fantastic and the location was perfect!!! Best restaurant I've ever been to right across the street - Greene - absolutely amazing. And the friendliest pub just 3 doors down. I highly recommend the Gresham Metropole and will stay here every future visit to Cork!
“Charming Hotel”
This hotel has a lot of old fashioned character with some good modern touches and is in a good location just 5 minutes walk from the city centre. The leisure centre which I was able to access free of charge also had a lovely pool although I did have to purchase a swimming hat to use it.
“Great old hotel”
Our first room smelled a lot like cig smoke so they moved us to another room immediately. It's a grand old hotel on a street with lots of small food places, coffee shop that's delicious and 3 great pubs. It's 2 blocks from more high ends shopping and about 6 blocks from the English market.
“Good hotel, very busy location.”
The room was average and the view left a bit to be desired. The street this hotel is on is very busy and parking is around the corner. However, the room is spacious and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. It was a nice central location.
“Entirely reasonable.”
Given the price paid, this was a very good deal indeed. It may not be the most modern or clean-cut of hotels but that's part of its charm. The room was clean enough and sizeable (certainly not the single room I had booked) and thankfully very quiet being a back room. Breakfast was acceptable though nothing fancy. Do note that the leisure centre is an annexed facility for which there is additional charge (not mentioned in the hotel description). Although it is only 5 euros per day it is still a bit cheeky. Nice enough, though, with a decent sized pool. I'd be happy to stay again.
“A great night!”
The city center area is accross the river but its a very short 2 minute walk. The parking garage is about half a block down the street but the hotel offeres a set down out in front to allow for check in and bag drop.
“Dated”
Dated hotel with very uncomfortable beds... Food was terrible.... and very expensive... Sheets were comfortable, but that was about it... Really old small TV.... Did not enjoy my night here.
“Get what you pay for”
This is only for the rooms. The breakfast that was added was wonderful but the room was not so good, slanting rooms, beds that roll in the middle and views of the roof. So it was one of the cheaper hotels so you get what you pay for!
“Very disappointed”
Very disappointed considering the refurbishment. Very small room and bathroom. Wobbly headboard under the window. Drafty double glazing. Very noisy. No wardrobe - just 6 hangers - tough when you are staying a week. Very clean. Indifferent staff - nobody said 'Good morning' or 'Good evening'.
