“Get more than you paid for”

Everything is great and going well until the old lady at the check out counter insisted that I haven't paid. Luckily she still had my email print out from Expedia so I asked her to check again that I have paid thru expedia.

“Catch a cab”

Although it is not close to the city centre it is an easy walk if it is not raining. Taxi's are quick and reasonable in price. The hotel is clean and comfortable. We decided to book the shuttle service to the airport for our return flight as it was an early morning flight, we paid a deposit to hotel and the rest was to be paid to the shuttle driver on pickup, it was suppose to pick us up at 4am, and at 4.20am we ended up hailing a cab and just made our flight, who knows if the shuttle ever turned up. My advice to fellow travellers is to take a cab, as it only cost's a couple of dollars more and is more reliable, and you are sure to make your flight.

Area recommendations

A trip out to the reef, it is beautiful and there is so much to see, whether you are a diver or a snorkeler a beginner or a professional your sure to have a great time.

Outdoors or beach

Take a day or overnight trip with deep sea divers den out to the beautiful reefs, onboard the Ocean Quest, it is absolutley amazing to see the colours in the coral and the marine life, nemo's, green sea turtles, white tip reef sharks,and many more colourful species of fish. The staff onboard both the day and night trips are wonderful, so friendly and helpful, and do everything possible to make sure you have a wonderful time whether you are diving or snorkeling they are a terrific team. Onboard the overnight cruiser you have your own room with ensuite and 3 meals a day and the meals are just as good as in the restaurant's if not better, having travelled with this company 4 times now I am happy to recomend them to other travellers, they are extremely good value for money, and once you travel with them you will find them hard to beat. They are amazing , try them and see for yourself, I am a snorkeler and my husband dives and we always have a wonderful time.

“tired old place”

“Good value”

The Aspect central is really good value for the money. I spent three nights there and they treated me well. I spent two before a dive trip and then booked the third through them while I was there. They were very helpful in getting me set up gave me the internet rate for my third night as well. They are a bit north of town, about a 15-20 minute walk but not too far. They are also on the bus route. They were booked solid while I was there.

“Small, clean, away from beach”

The room I got was inexpensive and clean. The room was very small which might bother some travelers, but didn't bother me. It was near a grocery store and some basic places to eat. Drawback: not near the beach and the activities there Overall: if price is a more important factor, then I would recommend this hotel

“Pleasant Surprise”

This motel was only 3 starts, so we weren't expecting too much, but were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice motel--not fancy, but clean, with a very helpful staff. Because they had overbooked, we were upgraded to a nicer room than we had ordered. Our only problem was the steep stairs that had to be climbed with our heavy luggage!

Area recommendations

Central City, near the wharf, otherwise you need a taxi to get to town.

“Great for singles”

This property has all sorts of different room types, but it's got tiny single rooms that are very budget minded, yet great quality. Perfect for singles - I always have a hard time finding a good rate when I travel alone for pleasure. The only bad thing is that the property is a bit far from the center of Cairns - about a 20 minute walk.

“Away from Cairns Center”

The "family suite" was a full bed and two single bunk beds in the same small space. We were four adults. Every move in the bed produced a squeak! Mattresses very uncomfortable. Service in the morning (getting a cab to the airport) was very helpful. Service that prior evening service was horrible. Attendeant could not be bothered. When I asked for face cloths and hand towels, reply was we already had four bath towels and that was it. Despite the room information advising that if you wanted these items, all one had to do was ask. Hotel is a mile or so away from the center, and in a city of 143,000, the Center is not that big. Better to stay closer in. All in all. poor service, but room value was alright.
