“Mercure Newton Park.”

Stayed at the hotel on a business trip, thinking i would go for a bit of luxury this time i booked the Mercure - Newton Park. On arrival, the staff at reception were OK but bordering on grumpy. I was put in a room right at the top floor of the hotel with a great view of the gardens at the rear, but after a hard days work i wanted a shower. There was a shower head fixed at about 18inches above the bath taps so unless you are 2ft tall a comfortable shower wasn't an option, so a bath it is then !! The bath tub was only about 4ft long so this was uncomfortable to say the least. The towels provided were well past their best and although clean they were actually quite shabby. The bar seating area was dominated by Sky TV and to my annoyance the TV remote was given by the bar staff to a group of women watching a TV talent show and steadily increasing the volume for themselves - the hotel bar staff were aware of this and did nothing to stop it. Quite annoying when you are trying to have a conversation with a customer over a beer or two. On the breakfast menu there is a "Breakfast Buffet" mentioned for hot food but this turned out to be a cooked breakfast served to you from the kitchen with rather small portions on a small plate to give the impression you are getting your moneys worth. Quality was OK but lacking quantity. Overall i got the impression that the hotel was trying to be something it definitely wasn't - a grand place to stay! But it actually felt quite cheap and tacky.
