“Generally a very nice hotel”

Two things struck us. It is a good 15 minute walk to get into the centre of town but you can drive and there is a large underground car park. Slight disappointment was the menu which was not only rather limited but did not vary one day to the next.

“An excellent choice -- with qualifications”

Le Pigonnet is a classy, mid-sized hotel with a beautiful garden located about a mile from the fountain that defines the entry point to downtown Aix. Our room was small but clean and had a beautiful view of the hotel's lovely garden. Service and support were excellent ... at the hotel itself. Two qualifications. First, as noted above the hotel is a walk from Centre Ville. Not a problem for us, but one you need to bear in mind. Second, the restaurant , although beautifully situated overlooking and in the garden, was pricy, which would not have been a problem except that it was understaffed and the staff was very young. A much better place to eat, and only a five minute walk, was the excellent, trendy Le Deux Freres.

“Hotel Preteneous”

The hotel is impressive at first site, but the Staff seemed aloof. The garden is beautiful, but the room was small but decorated nicely. The lift is so small only one person and a bag can use it at a time. The nearest restaurant is a difficult 10 to 15 minute walk. Overall the hotel is nice, but overpriced.

“hotel pigonnet”

This hotel is beautiful. The garden is spectacular. We enjoyed their pool. My only negative comment is the cost of breakfast: 21 euros per person. Most hotels include breakfast with the price of the room. However, once that is said, it was great to sit in their garden and have breakfast there.

“Beautiful gardens and pool area.”

Overall I would recommend this hotel. Front desk staff were helpful and spoke English. The rest of the staff ie: waiters, bartender, pool staff was not as good as the front desk staff, often unable to find and they did not speak English. The rooms and bathrooms are pretty spacious, nicely decorated, complimentary mini-bar (not refillable) and the grounds and pool are beautiful! They do have a car that can run you up to the town center but it's only a 10-15 minute walk anyway. I would stay there again.

“super staff”

The original room we were given was small and in the late evening a noise emanated from the air conditioning. We informed reception, who sent someone to investigate.Told they could not do anything about it,we were moved to a much nicer room at no extra cost. All the staff were excellent, obliging and friendly. All in all a very nice stay in a very nice hotel.

“Nice Garden But...”

Must say that the hotel knows how to market itself. Website depicts a beautiful garden and light filled rooms furnished with French antiques. These were as advertised. What was disappointing was the inconsistent service both at the front desk and in the hotel's restaurant. As language was not an issue (we are relatively fluent in French), the most likely explanation was either a lack of proper training or managerial oversight. Breakfast, which was not included in the room rate, was pricey (circa USD 37). Apparenly, other guests thought likewise as very few tables were occupied. Room service was extremely limited and also very expensive. A meal for one would have exceeded USD 100 plus beverage. Parking was readily available and secure, but could be tight during high season. The walk to Aix Centre was straightforward and well lit. Overall, not bad, but not quite a 4-star. Would suggest taking a look at other 3/4-star hotels in Aix, as well as the highly-rated B&B's.

“No thanks!”

So my boyfriend and I were not impressed with this hotel.. it's located on a very busy and unattractive street. It's quite a long walk along a busy road to get to center of Aix. I have no idea how the hotel got a 4-star review, but they must not have looked in our room! The bathroom was so awful.. very cheap white tile with this weird yellow trim. The shower was tiny. Our room also needed serious updates. It was not exactly the romantic holiday we had pictured from the internet. The staff were very unhelpful. No iron in the room, none available in all the hotel, and 'we'll have to charge you if you want us to iron it for you'. When we asked them to make us a dinner reservation at a restaurant in town, they transferred us to the hotel restaurant. (This was all done in French, so there was no 'lost in translation'). We brought some flowers back from town and asked for a vase to put them in so they would last for the weekend.. they looked at us like we were asking for something outrageous! When we asked for some coffee at 11:00am the waiter was so unbelievable rude, and we could hear him bitching in the kitchen about having to do it! The gardens were beautiful - the gym was nice - but all in all, I wouldn't stay there again.

“Overpriced”

Uncomfortable beds, antiquated rooms. Noisy air conditioning. Pretty setting and garden, but rooms don't match supposed 4 star rating
