Dining
Hotel Tugu Bali has 5 restaurants on site. Room service is available.
- Bale Sutra (The Palace of Harmony); A 300-years-old Kang Xi period temple that was almost demolished in the 1990s in Java. It was transported and reconstructed in its entirety at Tugu, and it stands as a symbol of harmony between the ancient Peranakan (Indonesian Chinese) and ancient Balinese culture. This temple is housed in a beautiful red room, displaying a spectacular 18th century statue of the Goddess of Mercy, an ancient gigantic mask, and various other priceless artworks. The Bale Sutra is said to have housed the most beautiful dinners in the country.
- Bale Puputan; An elegant, late 19th century atmospheric room, commemorating the Balinese Heroes who had opted to take their own lives rather than admitting defeat during the “Battle to the Last Man,” i.e. Puputan of Badung 1906 and in Klungkung 1908. The room hosts memorabilia of venerable Balinese royal families, some of them dating back to the 19th century and some relating to the Puputan War. In this room, the most famous dining ritual is the authentic Grand Rijsttafel and the Balinese Rajadom.
- Black Chamber; A symbol of harmony with the ancient Peranakan culture, this room features Peranakan antiques, Indonesian puppets and masks, a beautiful old Peranakan bed, and a masterpiece hundreds-years-old papier-maché Mak Co statue, who is also known as Dewa Panjang Umur (The Goddess of Long Life). This room, beautifully illuminated by red candles, normally houses a table for two only, with a private Balinese dance performance for this singular table.
- Waroeng Tugu; A “lifestyle experience” of Javanese and Balinese people in the past, how they ate at the comfort of their own homes and at “Waroeng” (simple traditional hut for lunch and dinner). This experience is an actuality from centuries ago when Java was still conquered by the Majapahit Hindu Kingdom that vanished around 1525. “Waroeng Tugu” is now in existence not just for the best Indonesian food in the island, but also to record the deep history of the country; its beautiful humbleness tells in the same time of the richness of the culture of Java and Bali.
- Beachfront; Romantic seafood BBQ for two under the stars where having the whole beach alone, with no other tables around is possible, only surrounded by torches, the stars, the silky sand and the crashing waves.

Indonesia’s Cultural Dining Series
At Hotel Tugu Bali, the mission of bringing to life the art, culture, and romance of Bali and Java does not stop at decoration and interior design. How you dine is not only about food, but it also involves many other aspects such as theme, setting, ritual of service, atmosphere, presentation, traditions, and history. Possibilities offered are unlimited, as rich as Indonesian culture.
When you dine at Tugu, travel back through time up to hundreds of years, and find yourself in different eras, places, as well as forgotten, no longer-existent experiences of Indonesia, such as:
•Waroeng Tugu, a Journey Through Time
•Balinese Rajadom, Royal Balinese Dining
•Royal Tugudom, The Grand Ceremonial Dining of Majapahit Kingdom
•Grand Rijsttafel, Dutch Colonialism-era Smorgasbord

Dancing & Gamelan Class
Traditional Balinese dance and gamelan music are known to be one of the most beautiful in Indonesia, and unfortunately the most authentic versions are getting harder and harder to find. Experience and join us celebrating the magical culture of the Island of the Gods.
Cooking Class
The cooking class in Waroeng Tugu is a unique lifestyle experience that speaks of hundreds years old of traditions, of the beautiful humbleness and the exotic richness of Indonesian dining and cooking culture, all at the same time. The class begins with a visit to Balinese traditional market where you will submerge into the daily Balinese way of living. Pick the recipes you favor most and finish with a Waroeng dinner experience, eating with bare hands surrounded by oil lamps, stone grinders, and traditional steamers on wood-fire terracotta stoves in the open kitchen.
Offerings, Flower & Palm Leaf Arrangement
The preparation of the frequent Balinese celebrations and ceremonies plays a major role in the island’s traditional way of life, although time consuming. Balinese offering, flower & “janur” (palm leaf) arrangement are so colorful, exotic and unique that they were recurrently reviewed in international books and learnt by many around the world.
Bike Tour, Horseback Riding and Sunset Horse-drawn Bendi Ride
It is said that Canggu Beach has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the island. Also tour the Canggu village and the surrounding breezy Balinese paddy fields on an antique horse-drawn bendi (antique carriage) cart, on horseback or on bikes.
A Stroll to the Morning Fish Market
Very early in the morning, at Canggu Beach, visit the fishermen while selling their fresh catches to the villagers.

SPA VENUES
Kamar Solek (the make-up Hut)
“Solek” in Javanese means grooming or doing one’s make-up. Kamar Solek used to be the bed of a king from the island of Madura in the end of 18th century. This is an outdoor hut that is dedicated to the traditional grooming for Javanese ladies in the old days.
Kamar Molek Seger Waras
“Molek” means beautiful, and “Seger Waras” means fresh, healthy, and full of energy. The authentic Balinese and Javanese treatments are done on old massage beds used once upon a time to store rice. Kamar Molek Seger Waras has indoor and outdoor areas, for treatments that include herbal baths and exotic floral aromatherapies.
Gubug Nglamun Leha-leha
“Nglamun Leha-leha” is a Javanese expression for daydreaming and lazing. It is an intimate al-fresco treatment hut filled with sea breeze and the sound of waves. The signature Keraton Leha-leha treatment for two is usually done here, a head-to-toe pampering that is a combination of Javanese massage, spice scrub, milk splash, and more.
Kamar Dandang Goela: Sumringah ing Jagat
Kamar Dandang Goela has its own signature treatment, the Gemulai Penari, a whole ritual that is characterized by water treatment and a massage methodology that is based on traditional Balinese dancing movements.
Kamar “The Samedhi”
“Samedhi” is a Javanese meditation that came into existence long before the introduction of Buddhism in the 18th century. The signature treatment in this room is the Dandang Watoe, an ancient massage therapy using stones from the Yang Tze River in China and the volcanic mountain in Central Java. The stones are heated in traditional steamers using exotic spices ad herbs, before located on important pressure points and rhythmically massaged.
Kamar “Mantra”
Spiritually serene and surreally mystical, Kamar Mantra, a haven of tranquility separate from the ordinariness, is inspired by the Hindu mantras – multifaceted expression of enlightened awareness, achieved through a verbal formula repeated in meditation or incantation. Kamar Mantra features the Mantra therapy, where the therapist chants mantra during the treatment using heated, soothing herbal oils, putting both mind and physics to a state of bliss and harmony.

“Most relaxing place in the world”
The best hotel I've ever stayed at! The room was stunning, modern but with a local charm that made you feel like you were somewhere exotic. Waking up to the sights and sounds of the ocean everyday was what we were after The staff were all so friendly, from the gardeners to the hotel manager. Always there with a smile and a hello. The location was away from the crammed tourist joints, and was so much more peaceful for it, but it was only quick cab ride to get amongst it when you wanted to. There were a few great little local joints to eat at that were walking distance, most notably was Deus Ex Machina for a great coffee and to see their locally made surf boards and bikes. I will be going back to Tugu for sure
“A really beautiful hotel”
Highly recommend hotel - everything about it is good - from staff to room to position. Perfect for honeymooners as it is quiet and very private. The rooms are beautiful - light and spacious - the bathroom is a delight - with its own carp pool and one of the few hotels I have stayed in with a separate toilet which is very convenient. The service was excellent - and the staff could not do enough to help you - and with a late return flight and a late check out were particularly accommodating. I would return in a flash - and would also love to experience Tugu Lombok which I hear is also exquisite.
“Beautiful and Peaceful”
We chose this hotel as it was close to a good surfing beach. We also stayed for one week on the Bukit Peninsula. This was a bit remote and we had to have a driver (complimentary) take us to some destinations such as Kuta and Seminyak. The drivers spoke English very well and were quite accommodating. The room was beautiful. My only complaint was that the bathroom floor should have been mopped. However, I don't mop my own bathroom on a daily basis. The plunge pool was big and very private, but did not get sun since it was covered. The beach was nice, with the exception of stray dogs. The hotel should consider some sort of deterrent for the stray dogs. There were always staff members posted at the beach loungers to provide any service you may want. We took full advantage of the afternoon tea service (complimentary) and huge breakfast. This breakfast was outstanding and always too big to finish. We loved having our private romantic dinners in a different location every night. This hotel was very special and the staff made it very memorable. We never once saw the housekeeping service working, but our room was always refreshed by early morning and the turn down service was lovely. Every meal was a work of art. It was so relaxing to take our time during dinner and enjoy it without being rushed. If you want an authentic cultural experience, visit the market- not for squeamish people or those accustomed to shopping at Whole Foods.
