“Great place to base in Chamonix”
I arrived in a taxi from Geneva hotel and was greated at the car park by a hotel staff, who took us to the reception and showed us all facilities. The hotel does live up to its reputation of a grand european hotel with its finely restored building and service attitute. The location of the hotel is great (at a square and on a road close to traffic) and is centrally located. The hotel room is spacious, and the bathroom is spacious with a bath. The only improvement that I like (and this applies to all hotel in Europe and is not unique to this hotel) is that I would like to have a kettle so as I can have cup of tea. We also went to the drawing room in the evening to have drinks and the experience is good too. I used the swimming pool and I had the warm and small pool all to myself. The only only improvement I can think of - is to have a restaurant that served lunch and dinner. All ino all my experience is great and I will stay here again.
“A fabulous walking holiday with a fantatic hotel and we willl return.”
Fabulous hotel right in the middle of Chamonix. Room clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast and good value for money through Expedia. Staff absolutely charming and very helpful. The pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are just wonderful after a long day's walking. September is a great time to go to avoid the crowds and long waits for the cable cars. Aiguille du Midi is a must and the walk back from Montevers having visited the Mer de Glace, whilst quite a challenge was fun. There are many good resturants and excellent shops in the town with some bargains to be had! A great holiday in a fabulous location. Best resturant Chaudron expensive but absolutley french cookig at its best!
“Alps”
Great hotel. Very nice and accomodating staff. Only disappointment was the additional charge at the hotel because the reservation was booked through Expedia.
“Fabulous. What a great place to stay. Highly recommend it.”
I wanted to have luxury and this is where I found it. What nice staff and surroundings. I can't wait to return.
“Fantastic hotel for a short ski weekend.”
Clean, comfortable rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location. A very short walk from the bus station to go skiing. Right in the heart of town. Skip eating at Hameau Albert 1er. RIP-OFF! We ordered a 130eur bottle of wine and they tried to give us a half bottle (opened before it got to the table and a much newer vintage.) When I noticed and said something, they went back and checked... and sure enough it was thier mistake. The food was average at best, not worth 2 stars by a long shot. Try Le Bistrot instead. 1 star, excellent food and service. I think the folks at Michelin got these two the wrong way around. Also, great Alpine restaraunt across the street that the hotel reccomended. Try the lamb!
“Chamonix Grand Hotel Des Alpes”
This is a very nice hotel and has friendly staff. Great mountain views and is centrally located.
“Best hotel in Chamonix, highly recommended”
This hotel is fantastic, best in Chamonix. Great and helpful staff, rooms are nice and clean, wonderful pool/hotub/sauna/steamroom, perfect downtown location, good ski room, tasty apres ski snacks. Stayed a week here with my wife & is a time we will always remember and cherish.
“No restaurant”
We booked this hotel during our driving tour of France & Italy because they have secure (but expensive) parking. After 8 hours in the car we just wanted a good meal & relaxation before sleep. We didn't realise this hotel has no restaurant, especially as we'd booked B&B. The hotel staff are lovely & very helpful but don't take their recommendation for dinner. We did & narrowly avoided paying GBP45 (yes pounds!) for some boiled potatoes, sliced ham and melted cheese in the guise of 'fondue'. The hotel does have a very small pool which is deceptive in the photos although the jacuzzi is great. I think we would stay at this hotel again but it is definately expensive for what you get so be warned before you book.
