“Positano´s Domina Hotel”

Confortable hotel, great views from the terrace and many rooms, clean and with parking on site which is very difficult in such a small enviroment. Positano is a jewel...small and pretty. well worth a night or two stay....they have great shops and galleries of art..for Italian design...everything is small and you must walk from the hotel. the best is to walk down, spend time in the small city, have lunch at the beach level, and come back later by a local bus.

Area recommendations
Positano is a very small city perched in the mountains...no much space for cars or even people...It is a small jewel in the Italian coast.. The whole area is well worth seeing from Amalfi in the East and Ravello to Positano...there is fantastic road that runs over the water with many twists and turns but always looking at the sea. you can´t drive faster than 20 miles per hour because you miss the views and because the road is so twisty and narrow.. Amalfi is more turisty, Ravello has a fantastic view and great food and the Rufolo restaurant, and Positano has the best ambiance and quality of people...Not huge busload crowds as you might get in Amalfi and Ravello. Sorrento in the north shore is also nice but not as quaint as the southern coast.

“Very far”

Pros: Great breakfast buffet included. Staff was very friendly. Room was large but sparse, very basic economy office type furniture, old couch and bed with old bedding. It was clean, and the cleaning crew was very nice and helpful. Sometimes you could take a long hot shower and sometimes you had to wait a while before you could get hot water in the shower. Pool area was nice but the pool was absolutely freezing, in the 60s, so swimming was not enjoyable. No one was in the pool the whole time we were there, and we visited in the summer. The food at the pool side bar was very good and fresh. The location is far from the shopping and from the beach. The view is not good because you are tucked into the mountain and there are many trees blocking any possible view. I would recommend this hotel to very active, light travelers who need to save money and can't afford anything available closer to the action.

Area recommendations
I would stay a little further down the mountain so that you feel you are IN Positano and not trying to see it through the trees. Hotel Poseidon is in a great location, and of course the hotels on the beach.
Dining
Saracena D'Oro is an AMAZING and very affordable choice for dinner. The food is traditional, fresh, and delicious. I had the best pizza in Italy at this restaurant. The prices are probably the lowest we could find and the food was the best.

“OK for Itailian Standards but not a 4 star in the states”

Overall, the hotel was nice and the staff was accommodating. The room and the bathroom were on the small side and the closet was very tiny. Depending where your room was located in the hotel, it could be hard to find because of different elevators and levels. The breakfast and the patio were very nice with a beautiful view of Positano. It said it was close to the church but was a 15-minute walk. It had a beautiful pool, which very few hotels have in Positano. Overall it is a nice place to stay.

Area recommendations
Some of the restaurants are very good. I would recommend that you go to La Tagliata way above Positano (beautiful view). They will send a car to pick you up at no charge.

“Not Impressed”

Hotel looks beatiful from the outside. Not too clean inside. It's quiet a walk from the hotel to the beach area, 600 steps going down. Worse part of all, you got to pay extra to use the pool. The beach in positano is all rocks and the water is dirty from all the ferries. We went to Gaeta beach, about 1 hr away from Positano and it was a million times nicer.

Area recommendations
Gaeta. Cleaner and prettier.

“Wonderful experience at the hotel in Positano”

The hotel was great and I would stay again. The staff very helpful, room was clean and the view was truly amazing.E

Area recommendations
The entire city is great to see
When to go
Go before June and after September. The roads to Amalfi Coast are difficult. Only a hired driver used to driving the coast should be used. If you go June thru August, the roads will be packed as well as the towns. All the flowers were in bloom when we went in late May.
Getting there
Hire a driver, buses are too croweded and if you have bags you may have to wait awhile to get on a bus that can accomodate you and your luggage. Private driver, not a taxi would be your best bet.
Getting around
Between town, take the bus but get up early. Buses fill up early

“Great place to stay”

A bit of a crazy lay out spread along the cliff side and our view of the ocean was blocked by a eucalyptus tree. However, this was still our favorite hotel that we stayed at on our honeymoon. Breakfast was great and the unblocked view from the terrace there was brilliant.

“Good value for the price”

Location is good, in front of a bus stop. Walk down the hillside steps to the beach. Not all rooms have sea views, some look onto the hill. Wifi doesn't work easily and takes time to make work with the passcode and spotty reception. Also, it is only available in the lobby area, which is inconvenient. Air conditioning was loud, but otherwise worked well.

“Too far from the action”

While there are many nice restaurants tucked up in the hill by the hotel. If you want to get to the beach, boat tours or enjoy the nightlife of downtown... you have to endure a 15 min stair descent & climb leaving you drenched in sweat. You can take the road.. but add another 15 min to your trip and watch out for traffic! Rooms are outdated and the beds were rock hard. Parking was offsite and a pain retrieve your car.

“Great Positano Hotel”

Hotel Staff was not the most helpful Be prepared for a steep walk into town, but the views are worth it!

Traveller's tip
Positano is not easy to get to from Naples. I took a bus from the airport to Sorrento, then another bus - both very slow and windy. I would look into taking a cab from the airport to the Ferry to Capri, then take a 2nd ferry from Capri to Positano

Area:

Positano, Italy: A desirably picturesque tourist haunt, Moorish-style houses cling to Positano’s steep hillsides. It’s a pleasant walk down to the small grey beach and fishing harbour via narrow, flower-decked alleyways and steps, but the return journey takes some effort (luckily there’s a bus). A domed church is Positano’s main landmark. The town celebrates the Feast of the Assumption on 15th August by re-enacting a famous victory against the Saracens.
