Join us for an invigorating coastal adventure along one of the Algarve’s most remote and untouched cliffside routes.
We begin at Praia do Zavial, a beach framed by tall limestone cliffs that reveal layers of geological history shaped by waves and wind. From here, we step onto a rugged coastal path that winds westward through wild terrain, offering wide horizons and the sensation of moving through a landscape that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
As we follow the trail, the cliffs open to sweeping views of the Atlantic, where the interplay of tides and exposed rock has carved striking natural formations. On clear days, it is not uncommon to spot seabirds riding the wind or even dolphins passing offshore, adding to the sense of raw, expansive nature surrounding this part of the coast.
The walk continues across uneven paths and isolated headlands until the landscape gently funnels into the valley leading to Praia do Barranco. This secluded bay is bordered by rocky slopes, creating a naturally sheltered amphitheatre. Near the eastern rise of the beach stand the quiet remains of an old fort once guarding this coastline, part of the broader network of defences that protected the Algarve from maritime threats during the 17th and 18th centuries.
We take a restful pause at Barranco before following the same scenic route back to Zavial, where the shifting light reveals new details in the cliffs and coastline.
On the Zavial beach at the end of the hike, you will participate in a rejuvenating yoga session, moving through gentle stretches to ease the body, release tension gathered from the hike, and anchor your awareness in the calm of sea and sky.
