What you can expect

  • We start the hike at the main gate of the Tijuca National Park, located in Alto da Boa Vista. The first attraction is the largest waterfall in the Tijuca Forest, the Taunay Waterfall, which enchants visitors with its 35m cascade. We go up part of the way along the Trilha dos Bancos (Bancos Trail), and part along the Estrada da Cascatinha (Cascatinha Road), passing by the Capela Mayrink (Mayrink Chapel) and Recanto dos Pintores (Painters' Corner), to the National Park Museum, where we will learn a little more about the history of the forest, its fauna, and its flora.

We continue on the hiking tour, passing by Recanto Tai Chi Chuan, towards Cachoeira das Almas, where we will take a break for a natural shower and contemplation. Going up a little further, we will arrive at the “A Floresta” Restaurant, the ruins of a colonial mansion that was the headquarters of a large coffee farm in the 18th century and had great historical importance during the reforestation of the Tijuca Forest.

We continue the hike along the Major Archer Road to the Vista do Almirante, a sensational observation deck where we can see the famous Pedra da Gávea and parts of other sectors of Tijuca National Park.

We continue the hike to the Gruta dos Morcegos, an incredible place to take photos and videos.

Along the way, we will see the Baronesa Waterfall, the Diamantina Waterfall, and the Gabriela Waterfall, and we will also pass by the Os Esquilos Restaurant, a former residence of the royal family with colonial architecture, an antique shop with old-fashioned decor, which has been home to the restaurant since 1945 and is in high demand for parties and events.

This hiking tour is an activity for people of all ages and physical fitness levels, suitable for the whole family, with many stories and natural beauty. Get back to nature and enjoy!
