What you can expect

Discover the Ancient Kauri of Northland: A Unique New Zealand Journey

Our tour offers a one-of-a-kind experience not available with other Auckland operators. This carefully curated journey takes you through some of New Zealand’s most iconic natural and cultural treasures, providing a perfect blend of scenic beauty, history, and unforgettable encounters with ancient kauri trees.

Step 1: Parry Kauri Park
We begin our adventure at Parry Kauri Park, located near Warkworth in northern Auckland. This peaceful forest is home to majestic kauri trees that have stood for hundreds of years. As you stroll along the well-maintained walking paths, you will feel the calm and serenity of the forest, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. Even a brief stop here allows you to connect with the natural environment and capture memorable photos of these remarkable giants.

Step 2: The Kauri Museum
Next, we visit the Kauri Museum, a unique destination dedicated to the history, ecology, and cultural significance of New Zealand’s iconic kauri trees. Here, you will explore exhibits detailing the life cycle of these ancient giants, their role in Māori culture, and the history of logging and conservation in the region. From detailed artefacts to engaging stories, the museum provides insight into how these trees shaped the land and the communities around them.

Step 3: Tāne Mahuta in Waipoua Forest
The final highlight of the tour is Tāne Mahuta, located in the Waipoua Forest. Known as the “Lord of the Forest,” Tāne Mahuta is the tallest kauri in the world and an awe-inspiring symbol of New Zealand’s ancient wilderness. Standing beneath its immense trunk, you will feel the scale, age, and mystical presence of this incredible tree. Please note that Te Matua Ngahere, the “Father of the Forest,” is currently closed until November under DOC management and is not included in this tour.

This tour is perfect for travellers seeking a meaningful connection with New Zealand’s natural heritage. From the tranquil paths of Parry Kauri Park to the rich stories at the Kauri Museum and the awe-inspiring sight of Tāne Mahuta, every stop offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
