What you can expect

The Vienna Central Cemetery - the most significant burial place in Vienna. From what was initially a much criticised cemetery, today it is one of the most beautiful and splendid cemeteries in Vienna.

As the old saying goes, everyone is equal in death. On Vienna's Central Cemetery, this probably only applies to the area below the earth. Splendour and glory, reputation and prosperity are impressively documented beyond lifetime. See monumental tombs of many famous people.

Numerous tombs and memorials were erected in the Vienna Central Cemetery for eternal remembrance and as a warning reminder of senseless death. See the graves for the victims of the Ringtheater fire in 1881 and the graves for the Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Vienna in 1945.

At a dominant position, almost in the centre, is the magnificent cemetery church in Viennese Art Nouveau. During a guided tour of the church, you will learn about the exciting architecutural history.

At the end of the private tour at the Vienna Central Cemetery you will see the forest cemetery. The modern burial has arrived in our society.
