What you can expect

Begin your adventure in the charming village of Stifone, where you'll set off on a hike through the lush, green woods of the Gole del Nera Park. As you walk, discover hidden spots and take in the beauty of the Nera River, known for its crystal-clear waters that resemble the Caribbean Sea.

Make your way to the iron mines, exploring caves and an ancient furnace along the way. Continue your journey to Mount Santa Croce, where you'll visit the ruins of Saint Betta Hermitage, a former 11th-century monastery.

From the hermitage, enjoy a panoramic view of the wooded valley and the Nera River. Descend through the forest to return to Stifone, or, if you prefer, extend your hike to the San Cassiano Abbey and the majestic Augustus Roman Bridge over the river.
