What you can expect

Begin your day with a visit to the ruins of Ardvreck Castle, built around 1490 by the Clan MacLeod of Assynt.

Next, head to Knockan Crag, a nationally recognised geological site and National Nature Reserve. See visible geological thrust faulting, where older rocks have been pushed over younger ones, and take a break at the bathrooms.

Continue to Corrieschalloch Gorge, a dramatic slot gorge carved by glacial meltwater. Marvel at the 60-meter-deep gorge and the rushing River Droma, a striking example of glacial erosion through rock. Take advantage of the free entry, bathrooms, and café.

Finally, visit Leckmelm Gardens, originally planted from around 1870 to 1930. Explore the estate’s walled garden, constructed after 1875, and see the surviving north wall and features. Learn about the garden’s restoration from the 1980s onwards by the Troughton family with the help of experts.
