Travel back in time on a vintage tram from the centre of Trieste to Opicina. Hear the storey of the tram, listen to a song about it, and feel the magic atmosphere of the Habsburg Empire.
Meet your guide and board a special vintage tram that has been in operation since 1902. It is the only tram in Europe that goes up an 800-meter slope with up to a 26% inclination. The slope is so steep that the tramcar needs to be pushed uphill and downhill by a cable, making it a hybrid between a tram and a funicular railway.
On your way, sit on wooden benches and hear the storey of the tram ,learn interesting stories about the famous people who used the tram, and about a tram driver who met his wife at the tram station and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the tram.
Hear about the letter to Santa Claus written by a boy from Trieste with the request to repair the tram. See Trieste and the Adriatic Sea from above. Get off at Obelisk and go for a walk along Napoleon's road to the village of Prosecco. See interesting sights on the way and hear the stories about them.
At the end of the trip, at the Opicina terminus, drink coffee and try traditional pastries in a local cafe before making a return trip to Trieste.
