The excursion begins by first using the Etna cable car, which from an altitude of 1900 metres will take us up to an altitude of 2500 metres.
Having reached the altitude of 2500 metres, the trek will begin in a North-West direction, walking on the lava erupted during the 2002 eruption.
Having reached an altitude of 2700 metres we will enter the effusive crater of 2002, walking inside a lava flow channel created during that eruption.
After a short break we will continue our climb until we reach the highest point of the explosive craters formed in 2002 on the southern slope of Etna. There it will be possible not only to walk along the edge of the Craters, but also to admire the Summit Craters up close with its latest lava flows.
We will continue through magical lunar landscapes, to overlook the extraordinary caldera of the Belvedere della Valle del Bove belonging to the ancient eruptive centers.
Subsequently, skirting the imposing eruptive cone of the “Laghetto” Crater born with the 2001 eruption, we will reach the cable car terminal which will lead us comfortably to the starting point.
It will be a journey through geology, volcanology and history, admiring the craters that generated the latest most important lateral activities on our side.
