Escape the bustle of central Tokyo and discover the peaceful suburban charm of Higashi-Kurume, just 25 minutes from Ikebukuro on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. This short tour combines a scenic riverside walk with a relaxing soak at Stadium Japon, one of Tokyo’s largest and most luxurious public bath complexes.
Meet your guide at Higashi-Kurume Station (West Exit) and begin a pleasant walk along the Kurome River, a hidden gem loved by locals. Depending on the season, enjoy cherry blossoms, green summer trees, or colourful autumn leaves. The riverside path is flat and peaceful, passing by small shrines, bamboo groves, and residential streets that reveal daily Japanese life.
Partway along the walk, stop by Hosenji Temple (宝泉寺) — a serene Buddhist temple surrounded by tall trees and mossy stone lanterns. The temple grounds invite calm reflection, and its history stretches back centuries as a place of prayer and healing for local residents. It’s a perfect moment to pause, take photos, and feel the harmony between nature and spirituality.
After about 40 minutes of walking (approx. 2 km), arrive at Stadium Japon (Spa Japon). Here, fully relax in a wide variety of baths — including open-air rotenburo, carbonated baths, and aroma saunas. The natural hot spring water is smooth and refreshing. Towels and amenities are available, so you can join even without bringing anything.
If you like, enjoy a drink or dessert in the stylish café inside the spa, overlooking the city of Higashi-Kurume. Finally, take the return shuttle bus from the spa back to the station — a short 10-minute ride.
