Embark on a guided hiking tour of Mount Takao. Ride the cable car to the halfway point and hike to the summit. Visit the Takao 599 Museum and Nature Centre, the Monkey Park and Wildflower Garden, the Suspension Bridge, the Cedar Tree Avenue, and the Tengu statues at Takao Temple.
Meet your guide at Shinjuku Station and take the train to Mount Takao. Make a short stop at Takao’s 599 Museum and Nature Centre. Learn about the wildlife, plants, and animals that live on Mount Takao. Enjoy a coffee or tea at the cafe before moving on to the next destination.
Ride the Mount Takao cable car to the halfway point on the mountain. Enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding trees and nature. Start your hike to the summit. Visit the Monkey Park and Wildflower Garden. Observe the native Japanese Macaques and learn about their social structures and playful behaviour.
Next, veer off the main trail to visit Takao’s suspension bridge. Walk across the bridge and take a photo to mark your time on Takao. Pass under a beautiful wooden Torii gate and walk through a beautiful ancient Cedar tree avenue. Stop for a quick refreshment break and try some freshly made Dango, a traditional Japanese snack.
Continue your exploration and hike to Takao Temple. Learn about the temple's long and fascinating history. See the Tengu statues, mythical creatures believed to be protectors of the mountain and punish wrongdoers.
Make your way to the summit and enjoy stunning panoramic views of Tokyo, the surrounding nature, and on clear days, Mount Fuji. Enjoy free time and your lunch break to relax, rest, take photos, and enjoy some of the freshly prepared noodle dishes from the summit cafe.
Return to the cable car station to return to the base of the mountain and take the train back to Shinjuku.
