What you can expect

  • Experience the beauty of kintsugi, the traditional Japanese art of embracing imperfections through repair.

In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn about the history and philosophy of kintsugi, a practice that originated in Japan over 500 years ago. Discover how broken pottery can be transformed into something even more beautiful by highlighting its cracks with gold.

After a short introduction to kintsugi and traditional urushi lacquer, you will create your own repaired piece using a modern kintsugi method that is safe and accessible for first-time participants.

    During the workshop, you will:

    • Learn the history and cultural significance of kintsugi
    • Choose a ceramic plate to repair
    • Carefully break the plate and prepare it for restoration
    • Reassemble and repair the pieces using kintsugi techniques
    • Apply gold-colored finishing details to highlight the repaired cracks
    • Decorate a small chopstick rest to practice your skills and create an additional keepsake
    • Take home your completed kintsugi artwork

No artistic experience is required. Our instructors will guide you through every step in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

At the end of the workshop, enjoy Japanese tea and sweets while sharing your creations and learning more about Japanese culture.

Whether you are interested in Japanese craftsmanship, mindful creativity, or creating a meaningful souvenir from your trip, this experience offers a memorable introduction to one of Japan’s most beautiful traditions.
