What you can expect

Begin by driving to the southern part of the city to visit Petrela, a medieval fortress perched above the Erzen River valley and surrounded by picturesque olive-covered hills.

Learn how the castle was reconstructed by Emperor Justinian and, in the 15th century, served as the residence of Mamica Kastrioti, the sister of Albania’s national hero, Scanderbeg. Across from Petrela lies the ancient city of Persqop.

After lunch, visit the northern part of the Tirana Municipality, home to one of the most popular tourist destinations: Bovilla Lake and Mount Gamti.
