What you can expect
Discover Waitomo's highest-rated caving adventure with exclusive access to the spectacular Okohua Glowworm Cave.
Operated solely by The Waitomo Experience, this is the only tour with access to this remarkable private cave. Explore vast limestone chambers, float on tubes beneath thousands of glowworms, and finish your adventure with a relaxing cedar hot tub overlooking native New Zealand bush.
With groups limited to just six guests, you'll enjoy a highly personalised experience.
Begin your journey at our purpose built base on private Tumu Tumu Station, just 10 minutes from Waitomo Village. After being fitted with premium caving equipment, follow your expert guide across striking limestone farmland, often weaving through paddocks dotted with sheep, before arriving at the hidden entrance to a glowworm lit world.
Step underground into a hidden world of crystal clear streams, towering caverns, and breathtaking limestone formations sculpted over thousands of years. Follow the underground river through winding passageways as you explore one of New Zealand's most spectacular and exclusive cave systems.
Along the way, float on tubes (Black Water Rafting) beneath a canopy of thousands of glowworms.
Walk and wade through blue pools of spring water as you explore caverns filled with formations and unique features found only in Okohua Glowworm Cave.
When water levels are just right, experience the thrill of a natural rock slide.
Emerge from the cave into stunning native bush and enjoy a peaceful bush walk back to the base. There, your adventure ends with a well earned soak in a cedar hot tub, overlooking the tranquil beauty of the native forest and rolling farmland an unforgettable way to reflect and relax after your underground adventure.
The Waitomo Experience is a family-owned and operated adventure, set on the stunning Tumu Tumu Station. With a strong commitment to the long term sustainability of the cave environment, we limit each tour to a maximum of six people. This ensures a more intimate, personalised, and enjoyable experience for every visitor.
Our farm is proudly carbon positive, meaning it sequesters more carbon than it emits , an important part of our dedication to protecting the land for future generations to enjoy.
The base building is located a short distance (10 min drive) outside the Waitomo village. This is where you check in pre and post tour.
