The Fort Museum of the Northwest Mounted Police is the most popular attraction in Fort Macleod, drawing as many as 25,000 visitors a year. From the beginning of July to the end of August, the Fort puts on a traditional Musical Ride 4 times daily, showcasing the horsemanship skills of the Mounted Police.
With your full-day pass you’ll have access to the Fort Museum as well. The museum houses a number of fascinating displays, photographs, and artefacts that bring the experience of early outpost living to life. Orientation tours are available.
Music fills the air, a soundtrack of old-time tunes with a military flair that lends an aura of pomp and circumstance to the occasion. All at once a troop of horses and their riders in scarlet regalia trot proudly into the ring to the beat of a drum and the call of a trumpet.
They begin to circle, picking up the pace, and then without missing a beat, move effortlessly into their first formation. It's quite a spectacle, seeing the gorgeous animals and their confident leaders guiding them easily into place.
