Each gate is allocated for the four-faced lingam (phallic symbol of Shiva), which is to express that the blessing of the lord shall spread in all four directions around the world. They are spotted around preference of the temple, with long dreadlock, meditating by the bank of Bagmati river, and occasionally smoking marijuana - as it is believed that Lord Shiva was fond of smoking marijuana in his adobe, Kailash - Sadhus in Pashupatinath are seen impersonating Lord Shiva.
