Experience the “Miracle of Stuttgart”: Europe's largest city model unfolds over 180 m², depicting Stuttgart in the 1980s and 1990s with impressive attention to detail. This is explicitly not a classic model railway – the focus is on the city, its history and countless lovingly crafted details.
The entire model was created by just one person: Wolfgang Frey. The train dispatcher worked on his life's work for 15 years as a side job, using, among other things, waste materials, bulky waste, paint and glue. Over 450 buildings at a scale of 1:160, around 2,500 hand-painted vehicles and 4,000 trees bring the Stuttgart of decades past back to life.
Nothing comes from pre-made kits. Wolfgang Frey researched, planned and made every element himself. Streets, buildings, squares, vehicles, trains and even the smallest details, such as rubbish bins, fences or individually designed tombstones, tell stories from Stuttgart. If you look closely, you will keep discovering new things.
The railway is also part of the city history depicted, but it is not the sole focus. Special exhibits include a former signal box that was once functional, with a signal panel around eight metres long.
Personal explanations, background information and anecdotes help visitors to discover the many details and learn about the storey behind this extraordinary life's work. Feel free to talk to our team if you would like to learn more.
A special experience for anyone who wants to discover Stuttgart, its history, architecture and detailed model-making.
