With only 14 miles of paved road, Sitka is best explored from end to end — and this comprehensive sightseeing tour gives you the perfect opportunity to do just that. Travel from the lush landscapes of Starrigavan Recreation Area to the scenic beauty of Herring Cove, discovering Sitka’s highlights and hidden gems along the way.

Japonski Island (Pass by)

Your journey includes a drive across the iconic O’Connell Bridge to Japonski Island, an area rich in World War II history and home to Sitka’s local hospital, airport, and US Coast Guard Air Station. Along the route, your knowledgeable guide will share stories that bring Sitka’s past and present to life.

Fortress of the Bear (Pass by)

This unique rescue centre provides a safe haven for orphaned and injured bear cubs, giving them a second chance at life. Today, the Fortress is home to three black bears and five brown bears, cared for year-round. Located 11 miles from the cruise ship dock and often closed to walk-in visitors, this stop is a highlight made easy with included admission on our tour.

Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park (Pass by)

Explore an important chapter of both Tlingit and Russian history. Visit the museum to deepen your understanding, or enjoy a peaceful walk through the park’s scenic trails, where historic totem poles and cultural landmarks bring Sitka’s heritage vividly to life. Please note this is the only tour that can meet at the cruise terminal and drops back at Centennial Hall. Due to some porting time it can be meeting at Centennial Hall and drops back at the cruise ship.
