Overview

  • A guided small group walk-and-coach tour through 4 of Singapore's most historic districts in one morning: Chinatown, the Colonial District, Kampong Glam, and Little India. Rather than visiting these places separately, this tour weaves them into one journey. Your guide leads you on foot through each district's key sites, with a coach between them.

Meet at Maxwell MRT Exit 1, beside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. In Chinatown, explore the Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple, and Trengganu and Smith Streets. Move on to the Colonial District for the Arts House, National Gallery, the Padang, Raffles Landing Site, and a walk along the Singapore River past the Fullerton Hotel. In Kampong Glam, wander Haji Lane, Arab and Bussorah Streets, and the golden-domed Sultan Mosque. Finish in Little India with Tekka Market, Tan Teng Niah house, and the Buffalo mural, ending at Little India MRT Exit E.

You'll learn how Chinese, colonial, Malay, and Indian communities each left their mark on modern Singapore.

Activity itinerary

Chinatown

  • 1h
Explore the historic heart of Singapore's early Chinese immigrant community. This district traces its roots to the waves of Chinese migrants who settled here in the 19th century, building shophouses, clan associations, and temples that still stand today, layered with stories of trade, hardship, and community. Highlights include the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, a striking Tang dynasty-style building said to house a relic of the Buddha, with intricate carvings and a peaceful rooftop garden. Just steps away is the Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore's oldest Hindu temple, remarkably located within Chinatown itself — a reminder of the district's layered, multicultural past. Wander down Pagoda Street, once lined with cramped lodging houses for new arrivals, and the atmospheric Trengganu Street and Smith Street, now filled with shops, eateries, and street stalls. You'll have free time to browse before continuing on to the next stop.

Colonial District/Civic District

  • 1h
Dropped off at Victoria Concert Hall and Theatre (VCTH), explore the civic and historic core of colonial Singapore on foot. This district was the administrative and commercial heart of the British trading port, and its buildings still reflect that era of grandeur and ambition. The walk takes in the Arts House, National Gallery Singapore, and a pointed-out view of the Substation, Singapore Recreation Club, and the historic Padang — once the social and sporting centre of colonial life, framed by some of the city's grandest civic buildings. Continue to the Raffles Landing Site and along the Singapore River, once the lifeblood of the trading port that put Singapore on the map. Pass the Asian Civilisations Museum and the iconic Fullerton Hotel, a former general post office turned five-star landmark. Along the riverbanks, discover playful bronze sculptures and historic bridges before returning to VCTH.

Kampong Glam

  • 1h
Dropped off at Haji Lane, explore the Malay heritage quarter of Singapore. Long before modern development, this area was the seat of Singapore's Malay sultanate, home to the Sultan and his royal family under an 1819 treaty with the British East India Company. Wander Haji Lane, once a quiet trading street now bursting with colourful street art, indie boutiques, and bohemian cafes, before continuing through Arab Street, Bussorah Street, and Muscat Street — lined with textile shops, carpet stores, and Middle Eastern eateries that reflect the district's trading roots. Arrive at the golden-domed Sultan Mosque, one of the most photographed religious sites in the city, and the Istana Kampong Glam, the former royal palace now home to the Malay Heritage Centre. Don't miss the historic glam tree, from which the district takes its name.

Little India

  • 1h
Dropped off at Little India Arcade, immerse yourself in the colour and culture of Singapore's Indian community. This district developed in the 19th century as waves of Tamil, Punjabi, and other South Asian migrants settled here, drawn initially by the cattle trade and brick kilns that once operated in the area, gradually growing into a vibrant commercial and cultural hub. Explore Little India Arcade, a warren of shops selling spices, textiles, and religious items, and the Indian Heritage Centre, which traces the storey of Indian migration and settlement in Singapore. Wander through the bustling Tekka Market, a hub of fresh produce and local life, and admire the vividly painted Tan Teng Niah house, one of the few surviving Chinese villa-style buildings in the district. Look out for the striking Buffalo mural along the way, a nod to the area's cattle-trading past, before the tour concludes at Little India MRT Exit E.
