Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura)

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amitabha Buddha, the principal Buddha in Pure Land Buddhism. It is located in the Kotoku-in Temple, which dates back to the 13th century. The statue is about 11.4 metres tall and weighs about 121 tonnes. It is one of the most famous landmarks of Kamakura and a symbol of Japanese Buddhism. You can enter the temple grounds for 300 yen and see the statue up close. You can also go inside the statue for 20 yen and observe its hollow interior and structure.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a Shinto shrine that dates back to the 12th century. It was founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron of the samurai. It is one of the most important shrines in Kamakura and a symbol of Japanese history and culture. The shrine’s territory is vast, and many places have been designated as National Historic Sites. You can admire the architecture, the gardens, and the statues of the shrine. You can also buy some lucky charms or make a wish at the shrine. The shrine is famous for its cherry blossoms and maple trees, which attract many visitors during the spring and autumn seasons. It was also awarded one star in the Michelin Tourist Guide.
Enoshima Island

Enoshima is a small island off the coast of Kamakura. According to legend, it was formed in 552 AD when a goddess named Benzaiten emerged from the sea and tamed a five-headed dragon that was terrorizing the nearby village. The dragon and the goddess fell in love and became the protectors of the island. Benzaiten is the patron of music and art, and many people visit her shrine on Enoshima to pray for her blessings. The shrine is also famous for its colourful statue of Benzaiten with eight arms. Enoshima has been a popular tourist destination since the Edo period, especially for Kabuki actors who admire Benzaiten’s talent.
Kamakura High School

Kamakura High School is the model for Shohoku High School in the popular manga and anime series Slam Dunk. Fans of the series can visit the crossroads near the station where the main character Sakuragi Hanamichi met his crush Akagi Haruko for the first time. You can also take photos of the school, the sea, and the streets that appeared in the series. This is a nostalgic place for many people who grew up with Slam Dunk in the 80s and 90s. Shonan coast walk From the railway crossing and the road, you can go down the stairs to the beautiful Shonan coast, one of the best surfing spots in Japan. You can enjoy the beach, the waves, and the relaxing atmosphere. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji on the horizon. Enoden is a symbol of Kamakura and often appears in anime and films.
