This tour offers a rare chance to visit Tajikistan’s beautiful Seven Lakes in just one day from Samarkand. It is more than a nature trip — it combines a cross-border experience, ancient history, local life, and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Travellers cross the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan border on foot, meet the Tajikistan-side driver, and continue towards the Fann Mountains. On the way, the tour includes short stops at Sarazm UNESCO Archaeological Site and Panjakent Bazaar before reaching the Seven Lakes.

The highlight is the scenic drive through the Haft Kul valley, with photo stops at the lakes and special time at Marguzor Lake, the largest and most impressive of the Seven Lakes. With TravelX coordination and border assistance, guests can enjoy a smooth, memorable, and well-organized day trip.

Activity itinerary

Jartepa Border Control

  • 40m
This tour includes a land border crossing between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan at the Jartepa/Sarazm checkpoint. Guests will pass passport control on the Uzbekistan side, walk through the border zone, and enter Tajikistan through the Sarazm checkpoint. Our Tajik driver/guide will meet you after border control and continue the tour to Panjakent and the Seven Lakes. On return, the same process is repeated in reverse. Border crossing time may vary depending on queues and passport procedures. Please make sure your passport, Tajikistan entry permission, and Uzbekistan re-entry permission are valid before booking.

Proto-urban site of Sarazm

  • 40m
  • Admission ticket not included
After crossing the Jartepa/Sarazm border, we will visit Sarazm, one of the oldest archaeological settlements in Central Asia and Tajikistan’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site dates back to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE and shows traces of early urban life, ancient crafts, metallurgy, and trade connections in the Zeravshan Valley. This short stop gives travellers a historical introduction to Tajikistan before continuing to Panjakent and the Seven Lakes.

Panjakent Bazaar

  • 40m
After visiting Sarazm, we continue to Panjakent Bazaar, one of the best places to experience local life in northern Tajikistan. The bazaar is full of colours, sounds, and aromas — fresh fruits, mountain honey, dried apricots, nuts, spices, traditional bread, and local sellers creating a warm and authentic market atmosphere. This is not a staged tourist stop, but a real local bazaar where residents shop every day. It is a perfect place for photos, short cultural interaction, and buying snacks before the scenic drive to the Seven Lakes.

Seventh of the seven lakes (Haft-Kul)

  • 3h
The Seven Lakes, also known as Haft Kul, are one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Tajikistan’s Fann Mountains. Each lake has its own character, colour, and storey. The journey begins with Nezhigon, famous for its changing turquoise and blue tones, then continues to Soya, a peaceful lake hidden in the shadow of high cliffs. Gushor adds a more dramatic landscape with steep rocky slopes, while Nofin stretches through the valley with local village life and mountain legends. The small and quiet Khurdak offers a hidden, peaceful stop before reaching Marguzor, the largest and most photogenic lake of the route. The final lake, Hazorchashma, sits high in the mountains and gives travellers the feeling of reaching a remote and untouched corner of Tajikistan. This tour is perfect for travellers who want to escape the city, enjoy mountain scenery, take unforgettable photos, and experience Tajikistan’s natural beauty in just one day from Samarkand.

Marguzor

  • 2h
Marguzor is the largest and one of the most beautiful lakes in the chain. Many travellers consider it the main highlight of Seven Lakes because of its wide jade-blue water, mountain background, and open panoramic views. This is usually the best place for longer photo stops, lunch, relaxation, and enjoying the full beauty of the Fann Mountains. Petroglyphs and local stories around Marguzor also add historical and cultural value to the visit. Hazorchashma is the highest and final lake of the route. Its name means “a thousand springs,” referring to the many water sources that feed the lake and river. Located at around 2,400 metres above sea level, Hazorchashma feels more remote and wild than the lower lakes. The road ends near this area, giving travellers the feeling of reaching the edge of the mountain world.
