Garden of the Gods Park is famous for its towering red sandstone formations, scenic roads, and views of Pikes Peak. The park’s dramatic landscape was shaped over millions of years by geological uplift and erosion. Visitors can explore walking trails, viewpoints, and impressive rock formations throughout the park.

Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center

The Visitor & Nature Centre is a great place to begin your Garden of the Gods visit. It features exhibits about the park’s geology, wildlife, plants, and cultural history. The centre also offers maps, visitor information, refreshments, and panoramic views of the red rocks and Pikes Peak.

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site shares the storey of life in the Pikes Peak region across several historical periods. The grounds include restored homes, farm buildings, gardens, and livestock. Seasonal demonstrations and special events help visitors experience the area’s Indigenous, farming, and settlement history.

High Point Overlook

High Point Overlook offers wide views of the Garden of the Gods landscape and surrounding mountains. It is an excellent place to appreciate the size, colour, and arrangement of the park’s rock formations. A convenient roadside viewing area makes it easy to stop for photographs.

North Gateway Rock

Kindergarten Rock (Gray Rock)

Kindergarten Rock is a distinctive sandstone formation known for its smaller clustered shapes. Its playful name reflects the way the rocks appear grouped together beneath the park’s larger formations. It offers another interesting example of how erosion creates recognisable shapes in stone

Balanced Rock

Balanced Rock is an icon you must see at the Garden of the Gods. This massive red sandstone boulder is estimated at 700 tonnes and sits improbably on a narrow pedestal. It creates an illusion that defies gravity and remains one of the most photographed spots in the park. A nearby pullout makes it easy to stop, snap pictures, and take in the views.

Central Gardens at Garden of the Gods

The Perkins Central Garden Trail leads through the heart of the park’s most impressive sandstone formations. This paved and mostly level trail passes beneath towering rocks such as North Gateway Rock and South Gateway Rock. It is one of the park’s most accessible and popular walking routes.

Pulpit Rock Park

Pulpit Rock is named for its elevated shape, which resembles a traditional speaker’s platform. The formation rises above the surrounding landscape and displays the park’s characteristic layers of red sandstone. Its unusual profile makes it an interesting landmark to identify along the route.

Sleeping Giant Drive

Sleeping Giant is a long rock formation whose outline resembles a giant resting across the landscape. The shape is best appreciated from a distance, where the figure becomes easier to recognise. It is one of several imaginative formations that have inspired memorable names throughout the park.

Kissing Camels

Kissing Camels is one of the most recognisable formations at Garden of the Gods. Near the top of the rock, two shapes appear to form camels touching noses. The feature is high above the ground, so visitors may need to look carefully to spot this famous natural silhouette.
