What you can expect

  • Embarking on a journey to East Salalah takes you through a captivating blend of historical heritage, dramatic landscapes, and serene coastal charm. The excursion begins in the historic fishing town of Taqah, where you can visit Burj Al Askar, an old watchtower perched on a hill that offers panoramic views over traditional stone buildings and the ocean. From the coast, the route winds inland into the lush valley of Wadi Darbat, a natural haven filled with serene lakes, grazing camels, and cascading waterfalls during the monsoon season. Next, you ascend to the soaring heights of Jebel Samhan, one of Dhofar’s highest mountain ranges, where dramatic cliffside drop-offs place you right above a sea of clouds. As you descend towards the foothills, a stop at the rare and ancient Baobab trees reveals a fascinating botanical wonder unique to this region's microclimate. Finally, the day concludes back near the coast at the Taqah Viewpoint, where you can sit atop the ocean cliffs and watch a breathtaking sunset melt into the Arabian Sea.
