What you can expect

Embark with Réunion Diving and go dolphin and whale watching off the coast of Saint-Gilles to learn more about them!

Looking for an unforgettable and enriching experience for the whole family, or as a couple or with friends in Reunion Island? Don't hesitate to join this dolphin and whale-watching excursion in Saint-Gilles! You will set sail aboard a Zodiac in search of cetaceans along the western coast of Réunion, an educational and magical excursion under the supervision of a professional.

Whales are present off the island from July to October, while dolphins are present year-round. This day trip from the harbour of Saint-Gilles will allow you not only to observe them if you find them, but also to learn more about them. And, if all the conditions are right for a swim, you'll have the pleasure of snorkelling with dolphins and whales! All this, of course, with respect for the animals and in compliance with the law. Furthermore, if there are too many boats at a site where cetaceans are present, the comfort of the cetaceans will be prioritised, and you will head to another spot so as not to disturb them, but also to have a better chance of snorkelling.

Schedule

  • Front desk at the centre, presentation of the centre and things to do

  • Distribution of gear (fins, mask, snorkel, and 4mm shorty wetsuit) before going to the boat

  • Briefing on board the boat in the shade and sailing for about 15 minutes

  • First entry into the water without cetaceans to check that the whole group is ready and to increase the chances of success when the animals are present

  • Return to the boat and then search for cetaceans while learning about them (time is variable, as cetaceans are wild animals)

  • Once the cetaceans are found, they are observed to confirm whether or not it is possible to enter the water, depending on the conditions

  • If possible, entry into the water with the instructor to spend 15 minutes in the water at the regulatory distance from the animals

  • Return to the boat and continue the excursion for another swim, if the remaining time allows, before returning to the centre

  • Debriefing on the species encountered during the trip and removal of equipment

Prerequisites
It is mandatory to have experience with fins, mask, and snorkel to go snorkelling

You also need to be comfortable using snorkelling gear, as well as with the idea of swimming in the middle of the ocean
