This is a tour of the town of Purmamarca. It is an enjoyable, low-difficulty activity that explores the town's emblematic sites.
We begin in the atrium of the town church, which dates back to 1648. It is a national historic monument.
At the foot of the church, we will provide a historical overview of the importance of the Humahuaca Gorge, recognised as a Natural and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The storey will take us from 8,000 BC to the present day, to understand the identity of the region and our Andean culture.
Inside the church, we will discuss the religious syncretism between Catholic and Andean cultures.
Under the shade of the ancient carob tree, we will discuss the resistance of indigenous peoples to the Spanish occupation, as well as the Argentine wars of independence and the numerous battles against the Spanish armies in the region.
Finally, we'll walk through the town's streets to talk about the local architecture, and while enjoying the scenery, we'll interpret the geology of the mountains in our natural environment.
