The tour kicks off at the Macorix Museum House of Rum. Discover everything about the production and history of the country's most important export product, with a tasting, of course.
Along one of the oldest streets in the city, Cale 30 Marzo and Cale Imbert, we'll reach “La Chocolateria.” You'll learn everything about the cultivation and production of Dominican chocolate on site, including snacks, of course.
Just around the corner are the city's most famous highlights: the completely pink “Paseo Dona Blanca” and the street of umbrellas.
Once you've got your photos, you can buy small souvenirs or gifts at Island Treasures.
Now you've reached the city centre: Independence Park with the town hall and San Felipe Cathedral are a popular destination for locals, especially on weekends. With a typical Dominican ice cream, we recommend just letting the city life sink in.
From here, the path leads to the renowned Monsenor cigar factory, where a small tour through the rolling of cigars gives an insight into an important tradition. Right after that, a small pedestrian zone awaits our visit.
Along the largest street, the “Esplanade” waterfront promenade, you'll pass the popular “Puerto Plata” photo spot to one of the city's most historic squares: Fortelaza San Felipe. From the fortress that once protected the city, the path leads us to the former railway station of Puerto Plata, which, although an important former transport hub, is hardly recognisable today.
Our tour ends here.
