What you can expect

Hike Bugaksan Mountain to the best-preserved section of the Seoul City Wall, a medieval fortification that runs along the mountain ridges surrounding the city. Along the way, your guide shares fascinating facts about the history of this remarkable structure.

After meeting your guide, make your way to cherry tree-filled Samcheong Park and begin your trek across the granite slopes of Bugaksan Mountain to the 12-mile (18-km) fortress wall, which dates back to the 14th century. Arrive at Sukjeongmun Gate, also known as “North Big Gate,” which is one of the 4 primary openings in the fortification.

From your elevated vantage point, take in an unparalleled view of Gyeongbokgung Palace. As you continue, stop at more spectacular viewpoints overlooking Seoul's cityscape and the surrounding mountains and pine forest. Note the striking contrast between the modern high rises towering over ancient palaces.

Listen as your guide shares details about the construction of this massive wall, which was built by labourers during the Josean Dynasty to protect the palaces and capital city. Your 2.3-mile (3.7-km) walk ends at the Changuimun Gate, one of 4 mini gates and the only one still in its original state. Impress upon your mind how incredible it is that that this stone-and-mud-constructed fortress wall section still stands so remarkably preserved after all these centuries for you to explore, before following your guide back down to your ending point at Gyeongbokgung Station.
