Next, pause at the impressive Palacio Nacional (National Palace), the seat of the Dominican government. Modelled on the US Capitol, it’s a perfect photo stop with its neoclassical architecture and lush gardens.
Cruise along the Malecón, Santo Domingo’s iconic seaside boulevard. Lined with palm trees and dotted with sculptures, it’s a laid-back stretch where you can relax, snap oceanfront photos, or even swing in a hammock with a breeze off the Caribbean Sea.
Then, step into history with a visit to the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial)—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest European settlement in the Americas. Walk along Calle Las Damas ,the first paved street in the New World, surrounded by beautifully preserved colonial buildings.
Stop at Parque Colón (Columbus Park), a lively square named after Christopher Columbus, and admire the First Cathedral of America, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
