Spend the day touring a variety of important Mayan sites in the Yucatán Peninsula. Explore the magnificent ancient city of Chichen Itza, swim in a cenote and relax in a traditional sweat lodge.
Get picked up from your hotel and travel to Chichen Itza. Explore the site with your guide, learning about the Mayan centre of commercial and religious power, one of the most important remnants of pre-Hispanic culture. Tour the main landmarks of the ancient city, including El Castillo, the famous step pyramid.
Afterwards, drive to the jungle cenote, a beautiful pool of water contained in a 130-foot (40-m) deep pit. Enjoy swimming in the clear, sacred waters, as vines drape all the way down from the jungle floor.
After lunch, arrive at a lodge where a temazcal sweat lodge ceremony takes place. Participate in a short herbal cleaning ritual before entering the temazcal, beginning to experience the heat of the volcanic rock and its soft glow in the darkness. Your temazcalero guide uses a variety of aromatic herbs, mud, honey, aloe vera and refreshing teas to guide you through 4 intervals of increasing and decreasing heat. Enjoy the purifying experience, accompanied by traditional songs and musical instruments. At any moment, you may choose to leave or request the heat to be reduced or increased.
Out of the temazcal, relax in a hammock with a light dinner, consisting tropical fruits and natural drinks. Leave the temazcal and return to your hotel in the evening.
