The National Mall is a three-kilometer-long park that runs from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington obelisk towering above it in the centre.
Lincoln Memorial (Pass by)
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, and is remembered for prompting the American Civil War, which led to the abolition of slavery. Inaugurated in 1922, the huge construction is inspired by the Temple of Zeus at Olympia. It is 58 metres wide, 31 metres deep and 30 metres high, and was designed by the architect Henry Bacon.
Capitol Hill (Pass by)
the United States Capitol, home of the United States Congress and one of the most instantly recognisable buildings in the world. It was built at one end of the National Mall, on a hill, as in the plan of the city of Washington by Pierre l’Enfant, but the original design was the work of an amateur architect, William Thornton.
National Gallery of Art (Pass by)
This is one of the most significant and extensive art collections in the world, exhibiting various masterpieces and the only painting by Leonardo found on American soil.
