Start your adventure early with a convenient hotel pickup in Arequipa and embark on a scenic drive to the stunning Colca Valley, one of southern Peru’s most iconic destinations. Before leaving the city, we’ll make a short stop to gather any last-minute supplies for the trip. The first leg of the drive takes approximately two hours, offering breathtaking views of the highlands, traditional villages, and rugged Andean landscapes. Along the route, we’ll make strategic stops at scenic viewpoints. Your first stop is Patahuasi, a charming village located within the protected Pampa Canahuas National Reserve. This area is perfect for spotting native Andean birds and camelids such as llamas and alpacas, providing excellent photo opportunities and a close-up experience with Peru’s natural wildlife. Continue to the Mirador de los Volcanes, the highest point of the route at 4,910 metres (16,109 ft), offering views of the volcanoes including Misti, Chachani, Pichu Pichu, Sabancaya, and Ampato.

Around midday, we arrive in Chivay, the main town of the Colca Valley, with free time for lunch at family-owned local restaurants, supporting community-based tourism. Later, you will enjoy a hands-on cultural experience in the Arequipa region, participating in traditional agricultural work and the preparation of traditional chicha alongside local families, offering an authentic insight into Andean customs and daily life. You will spend the night in Chivay at the hotel of your choice. As evenings can be cold, warm clothing is recommended. In the afternoon, you may optionally visit the La Calera Hot Springs, known for their mineral-rich waters, ideal for relaxation and muscle relief. Please remember to bring swimwear if you plan to visit. Guests who prefer not to visit the hot springs can enjoy free time to rest or explore Chivay, including the Main Square area with local cafés and dinner options.
